Car depreciation in Canada

How fast do cars depreciate in Canada? Is buying a new car a terrible proposition vs buying a used car over there?

In the UK, for instance, due to sales tax you lose 17.5% of the value of a car the day it rolls out of the showroom and typically over 3 years the average car loses 50% of it value.

How does this compare to Canada?

On a related note, Nissan X-trail (AWD) vs Acura RSX vs Mitsubishi Gallant .

As a new buy, do any of these cars (3 different classes, but similar price range) have any serious drawbacks, such as quality, reliability, running costs etc?

Also, when buying a new car in Canada, are discounts generally common like they are in the UK?

Maddy ! you need to buy a car off lease or used few months old,,where depreciation has already taken off approx 20-25% of new value.
RSX is hot. Nissan I don't like them personally due to low pick up and punch when accelerating to overtake. ( This is in comaprison to Acura & Honda's )...
You come to Toronto then we shall talk,,;)

It depends on what your requirements are. You can always find different class of cars with similar price tag but an SUV with the same price tag as a compact sedan cant exactly be a "really good" car.
