Canon Digital Ixus 500 vs. Sony DSC P-93

I have narrowed the choice of latest digicam models down to these two.

Which one should I get?

Sony DSC P-93 this one

This one has a better pic quality
and more options to set. But if you want a designer camera go for the Ixus  but I d avice u to go for the sony :k:

they're comparable.. but the SONY is cheaper.. at least in the USA.. $315 for 5 Megapixel's isn't bad at all..

I just bought the Canon one recently. So far so good.

Thanks for the tips.

Baba G, the Sony is cheaper here too. The best prices I could find here in Austria are:

Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P93 ... € 282.-- (approx. US$ 350.--)
Canon Digital Ixus 500 ........ € 387.-- (approx. US$ 480.--)

So I think, I´ll go for the Sony.

Good choice Umer:biggthumb

Cool cams. Have you looked at the DiMage series from Konica Minolta? They make a banging 8 megapixels with anti-shake and 200x zoom.

I personally like Fuji and Canon Products! :)

8mp stuffed on a 2/3" CCD is kinda useless.. u can only use it to ISO200 without serious degradation in quality due to noise..

what will a non professional do with an 8 MP camera :)
like baba G said, it aint all about the Mega pixels :)
and besides that, the 8 MP camera s are in a complete different price range.

It s like, some one is wanting to buy a suzuki swift, but you will sudgest him/her to buy a Rolls Royce :)

8 MP is quite a lot and really more for semi professional photographers. Even with 3MP you'd get more than an adequete picture quality IMO. But 5MP is a nice middle ground between the two and the picture results can be pretty stunning.

Ooops, my bad. I'm sorry if I like to have quality stuff. I'd rather shell out a couple of more hundred bucks to buy a top of the line latest stuff than buying something mediocre and regretting it later. It's only money. ;)

Ignore my suggestion and carry-on. :)

Suzuki and Rolls-Roys? Don't you think your exaggerating the price difference just a tad bit? :D

And it's all about MEGAPIXELS. The more the better!!!!

PS: where does it say an 8MP camera is for professionals only? I like taking good quality pics of my family and friends too. And the better the MPs the better the prints.

The DiMage is around $749 from Best-Buy. Not much dough for a good camera IMO.

ooay eejut kuch pata bhee hay kay aivaiN hee bolay jaa raha hay.. “more MP’s the better” ..

It’s all about the size of the CCD.. the bigger the better.. cramming 10MP on a 1/2.7" CCD will only give u noise.. but i guess u’re happy falling for the marketing.. laga reh.

Hmmm, I see. so what do you suggest? Who has the biggest CCD Einstein? :D

So you disagree? Please explain me why more MPs are not better? Until then “Laga reh” to you too. :hehe:

the biggest CCD doesn't need to be crammed with more MP's.. in fact the more the pixels the smaller their size on a given area (duh) and noise increases as pixel size decreases.

5MP is more than enough for quality 4x6 or 5x7's.

If someone is willing to shell out a 'couple of hundred more' for quality - but is unwilling to go to professional standard... then don't settle for anything less than Canon Rebel SLR for $999. Its only a 'couple of hundred' more than the Dimage.

For those whose feet are firmly on the ground, a 3MP is fine, as long as you are not planning to print posters.

yesterday, a friend of mine was debating between A75 and A80... the price difference was 100 bucks. I advised A75.

Buzzzzz.. wrong answer.. crappy lens on that A75.. I bought one and then e-bay'ed it.. Your friend would be better off with the A80.. granted the LCD size is smaller.. but it's a much much better camera... plus it's now down to $260 so no need to waste time and money on the A75 anymore.

What is that fancy sony model they use in that commercial when the aerosmith guy is walking in or out of a restuarant and the girls r trying to take his pic?

So your trying to say a 3MP camera will have better picture than a 8MP camera because of the same size CCD? You don’t make any sense to me man.
