Canon Cameras

Yet another digi cam thread to add to the list.

I’m finally going to invest in a digital camera and treat myself to an early birthday gift. I’ve narrowed it down to 3 choices … all Canon. I really don’t know (or should I say understand) what the big difference is (other than price) between the three of them. Please help me out.

  1. Canon Powershot A60 - (approx. $299 + taxes) - 2.0 Megapixels …

  2. Canon Powershot A70 - (approx. $399 + taxes) - 3.2 Megapixels …

  3. Canon Powershot A75 - (approx. $399 + taxes) - 3.2 Megapixels …

Other than the size of megapixels, I really don’t see/understand what the difference is between these three cameras. They even look pretty much the same.

I want a camera that will give me excellent results, strong flash and with a good zoom.

I have no idea.

Canon is a good brand, so will give you good results, as long as you take good pics. Flash is adequate. However, all these three cams have similar zoom.. i.e. 3x optical. Forget digital zoom for now. The 3x optical zoom is fairly standard and most cameras in this price range offer 3x. If you can spend 399+tax, then go for A75 and be done with it.

If you want more zoom, then you will need to look else where. Olympus C-700 series have 10x optical zoom, but you will be forking up about US$500 for the newer C-750 (4 MP) and about US$300 for older C-700 (2.1 MP). Both have impressive zoom (10x and 8x respectively) and a powerful flash to match this zoom.

At this point, I wouldn't recommend going for anything less than 3.1 MP. The larger mega pixels are generally wasted cz you can't see the whole pic on computer screen in full resolution and ppl generally print at 4x6 or 5x7.. however higher mega pixels come in useful when you want to crop a pic.

A60: lower resolution, full automatic and some manual settings.
(Trust me u wont need that :D ) and u can NOT record movies on it

A70: more pixels, same body as A60 but you CAN record movies aswell on it, and a bit more manual and automatic functions then the A60

A75: upgrade of the A70, is lighter, new improved body design, also records movies, a bigger backside display, and improved battery consumption.

thats it actually :D, go for the A75, its the best of these three and the latest of them :)

Hmmmm, ok.

Here's another thing. I'm going on another overseas adventure this September (yes, another UK guppy meet will be involved :p ) and so I need something that will work excellently under all conditions and be able to store lots of photos on the camera.

Also, are these any good with night time pictures?

mehnaz wait wait i got a camera one month ago i will tell u about it on line... also i will get some info from my bro he did alot of the research ok?

okey dokey Waleed

Send it through PM or e-mail me at my hotmail account.

If you want to store lots of photos on the camera, I´d recommend to buy extra memory, because usually the memory cards that come with the camera have quite low capacity. A 128 MB card or a 256 MB card should be enough I think.

Night time pictures could be a problem, unless you get a strong extra flash.

I recently purchased a Canon Ixus 500 which has all the features you're after Mehnaz. Although I did have to buy a bigger memory card as the one it came was wasn't very big.

Brit Chick, it must be under another name here cause I can’t find the one you got. :bummer:

I’m looking here http://www.powershot.com/powershot2/home.html … unless I’m blind, which is a big possibility.

Re: Canon Cameras

Now, here is a better deal. You owe me $130… ok?
I’ll be buying one soon..so if you find a deal..buy two get a trip to Honolulu for free then let me know.

It’s in US dollars, isn’t it?

I thought you were American living in Alabama. hmm damn! this internet…ma bad

Keep looking Fayz. I’ll be waiting. :smokin:

Anyway, aren’t Canon cameras supposed to be the best cameras out there? I have an Olympus one (not digital) and it’s quite good. I’m willing to pay more for a better zoom/flash but don’t want to end up being ripped off.

Canon S1 IS for US$349. 3.2 MP, 10X zoom, and an image stabilizer :k:…

Deewana Tera, that camera costs $700 plus taxes here. :grumpy:

Well it looks like I will have to up my spending costs for a better zoom and stronger flash. sigh

700 :eek::eek:…the A75 is for like 204 here…and the A80 is for 240…

u should get a US guppie ship it to u :D…

Canon are pretty good, so you are worrying needlessly. As I said before, if you REALLY REALLY want more than 3x optical zoom and don’t want to break the bank, then check out Olympus C-700 series (8x to 10x optical zoom). C-750 is expensive, but C-740 would be cheaper. The cheapest is C-700 UZ, has tonnes of manual features but its an older model. Plus its only 2.1 MP. If you want 3.2 MP or 4 MP than get C-730 or C-750.

now I know who to bug when I want a digi cam…actually i want one of those credit card size ones…but does canon have one? its probably really expensive
