I was using Firefox a few minutes ago. I closed my Firefox browsers, then I had to open one again. I get a dialog box saying how I gotta choose a profile and since I only had the ‘default’ one there, I decided to use it.
I get a message saying it’s in use already, so pick another one. I then tried to delete it and chose ‘no don’t delete my files.’
What do you know… I make another default profile and all my bookmarks are gone!
Is there any way I can fix this?
Oh and I recently downloaded the latest version of Firefox.
Najim & Maniac, I actually deleted the 'default' profile on spot, rather than rebooting the browser or the PC. However, I did choose the option to save the files (I would assume associated with Firefox or my settings) while deleting the profile. It seems as though it's all been lost.
I followed Maniac’s instructions and located the bookmarks. I deleted the new bookmark.html and it’s backup in the new ‘default’ profile and moved the old ones to the new folder. I closed down my browser at the time and when I restarted it, the old bookmarks were overwritten by the standard ones.
I’m assuming I’ve lost my old bookmarks forever now.
I should’ve also looked up the link provided above for the instructions.
Before you jump to the conclusion of how could I ever be so stupid? I’ve done it many times with IE favourites after formatting my PC and it has always worked out.
I was only able to recover some very old bookmarks from IE using the ‘import’ option, which I should’ve used to import previous FF’s bookmarks as well.
Oh well… thanks for the assistance. At least I learned an important lesson.
Sadiyah, go back to where you copied and/or moved the bookmarks from and to, and open the bookmarks.html files (all that you can find), see if any of them is what yours were (its a simple webpage, with all your links in it).
Then copy it to the desktop.
Launch firefox.
Go to Tools - Manage bookmarks
In the manage bookmarks window, go to - File - Import
then select From file
Then proceed and point to the bookmarks.html file you copied to the desktop.
Newer versions of firefox actually backup their bookmarks under different names in the profile folders (something like bookmarkbackup-Date.html or something..cant remember).
Maniac, thanks, but I FF wrote over my old bookmark file that I moved to the new 'default' folder. Basically, my old bookmarks are gone. I'm just gonna have to live with my old old bookmarks that I imported from IE to FF after this disaster.
CB, I only switched over to FF because there were too many security problems with IE. I'm now wondering if it's even worth sticking to FF anymore. I might as well switch back.
Opera has least amount of security issues from my understanding. It used to be a paid software but they just made it free. Comes with all the options one needs.
I moved to firefox because it was faster than IE (still is).
But the downside is that it doesn’t support all IE features. Btw, not to spoil the party you guys are having here, but what does the message “Server is busy and/or in use by another program” (you have to open and close the program that is using that server) means?
It pops up out of nowhere and is soooooooo annoying!!!
Is that in an error with firefox or do I have to go in processes and close some file again?
Recently I have also started getting firefox crashed if i go back (especially on gupshup? )…
5watery introduced me to this little utility called the Mozilla Backup. Once u have that and start backing up you’d wonder how you ever survived without it. I now do backups to a thumb drive to move all my settings (including extensions and history) between computers. Loving it!!!
Thanks 5watery.
Its looks Faster than IE but I guess if we run a time clock for total download time, then it would be same, it looks faster because Fire fox shows on screen bit by bit, while IE downloads all files first and then displays!
The same things happened to me in the same dates when **Sadiya **posted, I lost bookmark but I copied it from IE bookmark, … move on!
