Cancun, Mexico

Hey guys, Im planning on going on a vacation with my friend for about a week…and we were thinking about going to Cancun, Mexico. If anyone one of you has been there…would you recommend going there or would suggest something else for the same price range? Its gonna be about $1400 per person for 7 nights for an all inclusive deal, which I would say is not bad. The hotel is Oasis Cancun and has a 4 star rating.

For those who have been there…what hotel would you suggest and would you suggest end this month or early March to be the best time to go there? Also, if anyone has any better suggestions, do come forward.

I’m currently in Calgary, Canada…so some place not too far would be ideal…I thought about going to Pakistan but I can’t take 4 weeks off from work…and if I go to Pakistan, I’d go for at least 4 weeks.

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Go to Morocco instead. In Cancun u'd just be lying on a beach. Its pretty and u may see lots of flesh, but wouldn't you rather learn about some history and see some great sites? :) You can even cross over to Spain and do some site seeing there as well. Good time of the year for that.

Re: Cancun, Mexico

tofi unless u are liek trying out stuff like parasailing and jet skiing, dune buggies and all. other than that cancun can get a little blah after a few days.

Re: Cancun, Mexico

lotsa weed lots a europeans, week is enough,

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Err and not even pretty flesh..

flashbacks of 60 year old women in bikinis :bummer:

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Thanks for the advice. I like to try different things and would love to try jet skiing and all that. Morroco would be a great trip...but I think a week would be too short of a stay. 6-7 days away from everything to clear my mind and have a nice peaceful and relaxing time is what Im looking for. I looked into Dominican Republic and Cuba, but Cancun seemed to be more attractive.

Re: Cancun, Mexico

My dads advice—if you’re going to a poor third world country, might as well go to Pakistan. At elast you know the deal there :halo:

Re: Cancun, Mexico

if you're thinking of cuba, take some used jeans, T's, tops etc, you can sell em for good price, literally it will pay for your trip :p

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Not true. I went to Cancun a few years ago and trust me, there is so much to do and see other than lying on the beach. There are the Mayan ruins, ancient pyramids deep in the jungle, loads of theme parks (not your average type of theme park) .... the one that I really wanted to visit was a man made theme (don't remember the name) based on different water creatures and you have a chance to get into the water and swim and interact with them. It looked like a lot of fun ... not just for bachay. You can even go into town, visit restaurants, local markets, commute on local buses, you shouldn't have any problems.

Oasis hotels are extremely good. There are about 6 or 7 of them in Cancun since it's a chain .... you shouldn't have any problems if you decide to stay at this resort.

Mayan Riviera is an hour away. Cozumel is another hour away in the opposite direction. There are loads of spots for snorkelling ... your hotel will have day trips to various spots.

It's up to you to make the most of your trip. There are things to do other than lying on the beach, but you have to want to do them.

Have fun!

Cancun rox.

Re: Cancun, Mexico

MehnazQ - Thanks a lot for all the info! The trip should be a good one. just bought my package today, I'll be leaving on the 23rd. :)

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Cancun is stunningly beautiful....but touristy and catering to the drinking, college crowd. There are places to go though that arent this way, Tulum and Coba if you can get there...also try to visit some of the ruins, they're impressive. Stay away from places like Senor Frog's, its a tower of babel. If you want a nice day on the water, ask a local with a boat to take you fishing. You'll save tons of money and have a lovely day...and if you catch a fish, your hotel will cook it any way you'd like. Be prepared with sunscreen!!!! Even the most sun-friendly skin can burn horribly there.

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Cancun is actually fantastic and is lot more than just beaches. Ofcourse you can do the jetskis, parasailing, ride horses on a beach in a ranch, etc. You can also take a number of day tours to mayan ruins in the Yucatan - especially chichin itza.

I'd say a week is a good spread to vacation, tour, absorb and chill out

Re: Cancun, Mexico

Loved Cancun! Have fun and stay at the tourist strip. Make sure you go to the Mayan Temple - chichin itza and do visit Tulum. Also, take the local bus to get around. Its real cheap and a thrilling ride :)

Take sunscreen, a cap and definitely U.S. dollars for tipping people.
