I was just wondering what the history course at a Canadian high school entials?
Does it look at American history, you know civil war, prohibition, revolutionary war, cold war, harlem renaissance ect
Or is there a Canada specific content.
I say this as I am thinking of ditching plans to make it in the US for new plans to make it in Canada. (Will explain logic later).
Thanks,
Re: Canadian History Question
Well, There is the HISTORY OF CANADA, which covers everything from beginning to ww2.
YOu take those in junior grades. (They're compulsary)
Then in senior grades you have the option to comprehensively study American history, World History, Religious history etc..
Re: Canadian History Question
I ask as I wonder if someone who specialized in American history would be suitably qualified to teach Canadian syllabus for the subject.
How much history can Canada have?
America is full of fascinating history, but it may have too many social "ills" for me.
Re: Canadian History Question
Keep this thread up. I need info.
Re: Canadian History Question
Grade 11:World History to the Sixteenth Century
This course investigates the history of humanity from the earliest times to the sixteenth century. You will analyse diverse societies from around the world, with particular emphasis on the political, cultural, and economic structures and historical forces that form the foundation of the modern world. You will examine the influence of selected individuals and groups, as well as particular innovations, and you will develop skills of historical inquiry, organization, analysis, and communication.
Grade 12: World History: The West and the World
This course investigates the major trends in Western civilization and world history from the sixteenth century to the present. You will learn about the interaction between the emerging West and other regions of the world, and about the development of modern social, political, and economic systems. The skills and knowledge developed in this course will enable you to understand and appreciate both the character of historical change and the historical roots of contemporary issues.
If you want more information about other courses in the humanities, I can get outlines for those too. Hope this helps.
Re: Canadian History Question
Canadian and American history is cute … it starts so recently
At my school in England they made us start compulsory history from the year 1066 and ended compulsory history at the year 1588.
Re: Canadian History Question
Most of the Canadian history is covered from grades 5 to 10. In between there. As for high school - the courses are more about the world rather than just Canada.
