The election results indicate that Canadians have moved in a direction of “cautious” change providing the Conservatives with a slim minority while offering the other parties a short leash in the new Government.
This Government can be expected to function for around a year and a half… the average life of a minority Govt. being 18 months in Canada.
The only good thing that’s come out of this election for me is the federalists having managed to filch a chunk of the popular vote from the separatists in Quebec. :k:
I’m hoping that with a slim minority, the opposition will keep a close watch and harness Stephen Harper’s pro-American agenda.
We kicked tories' tushies in vancouver..grabbed more seats, especially in our riding of West Vancouver. I think the Liberals did very well considering the circumstances. Now is the time to get regroup and connect with their grassroot support in Quebec and Ontrario..
124 Tories + 29 NDP + 1 independent just about = 154. Not a stable government at all.
Unless the Tories ally with the Bloc, this doesn't bode well for Canada's stability. And even if the Tories ally with the Bloc, that doesn't well for Canada's integrity.
Vancouver was a pleasant surprise indeed! and yes like I said, its good to see an overall increase of 10 percentage points for the federalists in Quebec.

Bloc Heads, have said they would support Tories to form the Gov't. Whereas Layton (NDP) wants in as well.
I am guessing, that Tories will accept Bloc offer, as Conservatives and NDP have different values.
But by accepting Bloc Heads offer, Tories will be abandoning rest of Canada, Which would trigger an Early election (possibly less than 6 months).
I wasn't following any of the campaigns, but I'd like to know what are some of the promises made by PC and what are the chances of them fulfilling their promises?
PC: 1 – 5% GST (2% cut)
**2 – MAX $1600 child benift (age 6 or less)
3 – Trade(Share Market) Tax Benifits
4 – Cancel the federal-provincial child-care
5 – Minimum sentences for gun crimes will be introduced.
6 – Privatise Health System
**1) Cutting GST, i thought i would never say this: “it is not good”. Why you may ask. Simple: 2% cut is not going to help middle/low income families. It only helps the rich. To make the books balance, PC has decided that they will cut Income Tax Returns(umm, loaded people dont get return… i wonder why he decided to do that).
$1600 does sound very promising, but it is just a slap on the face. Cancelling the Liberals Child Benifit program and making it worse. How?, By throwing the cash at parents without anyone monitoring the spending by parents.
This one makes me laugh…no tax if you re-invest your profit/investment gained from sale of Shares within 6 months… I think someone forgot to tell him that it does not benifit the Middle/low income families.. oh wait, sorry i take it back, i forgot we are taking about conservatives…

Anyone living in toronto can give us more “useful” description of this:2guns:
Private Health System, that would be awesome but there is a small, little, tiny, minute, microscopic problem. Money!.
Another interesting point in this election is the differences between urban and rural political affliliation. The three biggest Urban city of Canada, (MTL,TO,VNC) did not elect a single conservative candidate. That means except Calgary, there will be no urban representation in the Tory government. That tells very much of rural cowboy agenda that is going to be imposed on the open-minded cities.
Bloc lost 9% of their support in Quebec, thats really good even when Liberals were at their lowest in terms of Quebec handling (sponsership scandal). But the conservative gains in the province is not healthy for left wingers and it could become a permenant pain in neck in years to come. Liberal needs to find a charasmatic leader really soon who can do cleansing of the party as well. Canada need their big comeback. I hope even if its a Liberal minority in 2007, still it will be good so NDP can have a check on them to evaluate whether they have learned lesson from the past or they need another lashing.
