Perhaps.

With hard work and education...

But remember, many struggling American families like everywhere else.

T.V. and commercials are hype ya know.

For instance, Missouri Median income in 1997 was about 36K.

Let's see 36k divided by 12 months..

3k monthly before taxes........

Grocery bill...200 bi-weekly probobly family of 4. And not including baby formula/diapers..... though could trim down by eating cheap food...

or sacrafice a fruit and veggie a day....

so thats... 400 month eatting very cheaply...

Housing payment... even in the cheapest of neighborhoods..nothing under $450 month or so....

Utilities...gas/elec/trash/phone/internet/water

minimum $200 month living cheaply in very small place...

health/medical? ???? Ins deducted from gross income..cheapest probobly 1200 year or so... 100 month minimum..

Car expense... payment??? sky is the limit but on the low side say $175. month...

Car Ins? Good golly...with a teen costing me in excess of $200 month...

gas..??? depending on how often/far you drive... say $25 bucks a week for a fill up.

So far 1550 month...out of 3k.

Automobile maintenance???

Clothing???? Even tennis shoes???

Entertainment ???? (if money left over)

Taxes????

Realestate tax.

Personal Property tax.. (on automobiles, etc.)

State tax.

Federal tax.

Excise tax.

Charity.

School tuition? College housing and college books... or private/parochiol schools and books.... or public schools and supplies & fundraisers..

So you see the median income isn't hollywood movies ....

fore sure.

Well, Mcgill is nothing compared to Univ. of Toronto or Waterloo.

Please fret, dont even compare stanford, yale, MIT, columbia (I could go on and on) to such colleges yar. Its a no contest.

McGill is one of the best Universities in Canada, and yes it's world renowned.

Was ready to give kudda's for your post...

Then I realized I read it wrong...

My kudda's were meant for...

Make the Greatest Nation The Galaxy.

My thinking was

Greatest Nation......

Earth and all Earth's species. All of us.

Well, if you think its better than Yale, Stanford, MIT, Caltech (again I could go on and on), I dont even want to argue with you…

The first things my friends did(who went to Mcgill after Alevels) was to transfer to the US :hehe:

Universities specialize more in some departments than others. For example, McGill is well known for it’s medical school, it’s faculty of Law and Engineering. Concordia was very well known in the 90’s for it’s business and IT schools.

Your example of your friend transferring out of McGill means squat. I can give you a dozen of those examples too, what’s your point? For all I know your friend was a drop out or a failure.

Education I think is the effort (the student) puts into it.

As avg American with avg American income … schools like Yale, Stanford, MIT, Caltech, Princeton…

even, Valaparsio

are hype to me and out of boundries as far as affordability…

unless one is genious and gets great scholarship or $$$ aid

My kid with pretty good 3.75 gpa, scholarship offered by U of Indiana wasn’t enough…considering the annual cost, minus 5K was still out of pocket about 16k… or so. Valaparsio offered same 5k… as well as many others… even with 10k scholarship…still 9-16k annual expense..not including books…

Stafford loans only go so far. Avg parents monies only go so far..

Anyway

I think..

One can flunk out of Yale the sophmore year just as easily as one can flunk out of Mizzou or UMSL even..

Depending on the students goals and priorities a student can gather a great education whatever shool they attend.

US universities rule! Canada has squat in terms of the education it offers students.

From what I’m reading it’s quite simple in terms:
Who has a lower crime rate? Canada.
Who has free health care? Canada.
Literacy seems to be better at Canada.

You guys have also forgot to mention the environment. Canada is in a cleaner environment, where we are not getting air pollution everytime we walk outside.

Canada and US are biggest trading partners because each needs one another to live apon. (Unless USA wants to use its force and take over another country like they always do).
Where would USA be without its hydro?

If American Universities are the best in the world then obviously all of America should be geniuses with the mass amount of institutions available. Thus I think the topic of universities is kind of ‘iffy’.

It is even sad when the President of the United States (elected by the American citizens) forgets to say Thankyou to his good friend when helping them out in times of need.

The problem Canadians have with American’s is they are very ignorant. I suggest everyone watch Bowling for Columbine, and especially turn to the chapter between Canadians and Americans.

Canada is a peaceful nation, and well… American’s are too violent. Watch out guys, they might shoot us with their semi-automatic. :hehe: j/k

Spock since when are you american?

AvgAmericangirl. All Americans are immigrants. True, yet many forget that when they say America should not let more muslims, or arabs or africans in. However my comment was based after 1945, when the US actively encouraged a brain drain from western europe and later on the rest of the world.

Now getting on to Universities. It is very simple. These Ivy League unis are so popular or so good, not because they provide an excellent education. Rather because they have the connections. You can get a C average at Harvard, but you got the name. You can score a 4.0 GPA from a state university, yet you wont get the same chances or oppurtunities. It is more commercial capitalism at work. Nothing more.

Take Bush as an example of stupidity coming out of Ivy league colleges yet he has the connections because of Daddy.

I am in agreement with you CM on the Uni's..and IMHO Ivy League Colleges are a typical grand rip-off (unless of course I can afford the tuition)...

Seriously...

What sincerity is in a Name?

Dont give any more excuses. For that simple reason you called 50% Americans as Idiots, well you aren't much better, it seems 48 % canadians are Idiots too.

No excuses at all. The bottom line is that we still outrank you in every area. Even your "educated" are idiots, so it seems.

But our 50% idiots make average lives of the 100% of canandians possible.

No, the bottom line is 48 % Canadians are IDIOTS and using your own logic, your 'Educated' are even bigger IDIOTS.

:hehe: What grade are you in? Anyway, it’s a world known fact that the American population is the most ignorant in the world, regardless of education.

Old, but just as entertaining.

Another Ignorant comment by a Canuck. Do you have some stats to prove that ? Be careful in posting the link because it may backfire like last time. :hehe:

Hm! Patriotic brownies of Indian origin arguing supremacy of Canada and USA! We've come a long way.

Ofcourse when reason returns there'll be no arguement. Canada is boring.

It comes from experience from dealing with “educated” Americans, and I’m not the only one. Ignorance is what Americans are known for, but you’re too ignorant to even realize that

Also, nothing backfired, I never said we didn’t have illiteracy, I said we had the best literacy rate. What we don’t have is ignorance + illiteracy which makes it so much worse for you ignoramuses. Got it?
