Canada making the move to year round school

This is interesting! Every now and then this topic creeps up in America…some private/charter schools have the autonomy to do so and have, but I have yet to hear of this implemented in public schooling. Thoughts?

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

I’m surprised that there were ANY kids that agreed with this approach. :cb:

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

Girls cry when they are home sick missing school; wanting to go to school even on the weekends :smack:

Probably the older one’s would object more to this I bet :hehe: Homework all year around shudders

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

it’s just that summer is summer…they should have that time to do other things…
I don’t know.
I’m quite conflicted on this.
I agree with how it’s easier for families where both parents are working and will need to arrange childcare but it’s a big change for the kids that are used to having the summer off.
And particularly difficult for kids in secondary school that have part-time jobs to fund their post-secondary education.

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

I taught at an year around public school, loved the year around schedule. We got 2-3 weeks off every quarter.

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

No way:no:. I pity the kids.

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

I like summer break as much as the kids if not more. :chai:

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

I think it will be harder for the parents to find child care for 2 weeks every semester than someone / daycare for a solid block of time 2-3 months and be done with it. What a nightmare.

Same here :sid:

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

Lunch menu would be simple for round school - round roti

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

everyone busy earning dollars so no time for moms to care for kids anymore?

Re: Canada making the move to year round school

I’m definitely against this. I’ve grown up in Canada and have done all my schooling here. Until I started College, there was nothing more exciting than the prospect of summer holidays.
