The USA politico-economic setup is geared for the generation of wealth rather than its distribution.
Canada follows the Western European setup of being geared for the distribution of wealth, but not so much its generation (until Alberta struck oil)
The USA's culture is still impacted by the Calvinist ideals of your own hard work leading to your own personal material and economic prosperity
Canada's culture instead follows the European ideal of distributing society's wealth so that the poor do not suffer.
Which system you prefer depends on your political leanings.
