Hi There!

I am just opening this topic to know about the Canadian immigrants who landed here in recent here. I would like to know about their experience living here in Canada. like?

  1. Does your dream come true after landing here?
  2. Did you get your field job here in Canada?
  3. Do you think without upgrading you according to Canadian market you wont be able to get a good job?
  4. Do you think Pakistan was better place to work or live?
  5. Will you suggest your family member or relative to come here in Canada
  6. do you think Canada is the land of opportunity?

Any comments related to personal experience will be welcome

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

1) Not right away ... it takes time (anywhere you go).
2) yes, but it took couple of years.
3) at least they need that so-called 'Canadian Experience'. I'd say, that initial stage of getting local experience is tough and after that it becomes bit easier.
4) Nop.
5) Well, this is not a place to make big money for sure. But it's ok.
6) Possibly, it depends upon you. At least one example is Mike Lazaridis of RIM which is going well so far :D

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

I came to Canada to study the great Canadian art of muff diving. To smack clam, munch rug, dine at just one Canadian pink taco stand! You know, I wanted to, how is it, park the porpoise. You know? I want to take it through the car wash, baby. And get it waxed. I want to wax it. Wax it! You know, and air dry. Air dry that ****, yeah! I really like to be inside Canada.

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

OH Canada
I went there but came back in 36hours
Big No No

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

1) Dreams never come true.
2) YES.
3) I never upgraded, but I am educated in USA & UK.
4) I didn't move from Pakistan. Cannot comment.
5) Unless he/she is very unhappy in Pakistan, NO.
6) Canada is definately not the land of opportunities.

Most of the people who landed there in Canada (coming from Aisa) started crying after one week, saying out of fire into the frying pan.

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

Canada is probably worse off in terms of job opportunities compared to US, partly because of great influx of highly educated immigrants, and partly because a large part of Canadian economy depends on US. With the current down turn in US economy, the ripple effect is felt in Canada as well.

However, the rest of your questions can be easily applied to anyone immigrating to any other country. Largely it depends on why you moved in the first place. For those who were struggling in Pakistan (economically), its probably not a bad idea to move to Canada. The worst that can happen is that they will struggle in Canada as well. Big whoop! However, for those who live nice comfy lives back in their homeland, the decision to move to Canada or anywhere else should be considered more carefully.

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

Technically, I’m not an immigrant yet since I’m here in a work permit. But I’ve filed for immgration and my lawyer says I’l lprobably get it in a year and a half.

**1. Does your dream come true after landing here? **

Didn’t really have a dream coming here. I just wanted to live in another country to gain international experience for my resumé. Canada was the only English-speaking country I could get a transfer to other than the USA, which I want to avoid like the plague. Canada been alright so far, nothing special. It’s quieter and more boring than the UK.

**2. Did you get your field job here in Canada? **

My company tranferred me here as part of my job

**3. Do you think without upgrading you according to Canadian market you wont be able to get a good job? **

Yup. If I lost my job I’d move back to the UK since I can get a much better job with my level of education (batchelor’s) in the UK than in Canada. In Canada, employers put too much emphasis on having a masters or MBA compared to the UK market, where postgraduate education is not that important.

4. Do you think Pakistan was better place to work or live? Haven’t lived in pakistans since I was 2 years .. moved here from the UK. Canada is cheaper than the UK, but economically not as developed. In other words, it’s better to live in Canada but worse to work in Canada.

**5. Will you suggest your family member or relative to come here in Canada **
Never.

**6. do you think Canada is the land of opportunity? **

Definately not. The UK is the land of opportunity. And also the Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free…

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

Be realistic and pragmatic about your approach. All depends on wits and ambitions. At the same time, don’t entangle in false perceptions which may or may not be true. First, you must learn and adhere in order to appreciate before disapprove.

Place is exactly what you make out of the opportunities available to you. And there are plenty of them. When ever you are making such a huge change such as moving entirely to a new country you ought to be flexible to adapt, and with constancy things normally work out.

I love Canada. Apart from many great things, it is an impeccable homeland for me..for uncountable reasons..

Re: Canada Immigrants Experience

Toronto and maybe Vancouver are the two best cities of Canada; its multi culturalality is its strength. Without education its really hard to fulfill your dreams and those who were educated in Pk don't really have a chance here. For example, I know a doctor from karachi who worked as pizza delivery guy at the beginning.

US is where the money is; Canada will always be US's backyard. Everything thats in US is about 75% less in quality here in Canada.
