Canada and Nordic countries

I’ve got an assignment where I’ve got to do business (or export) in a Nordic country. It has got to be something from Canada that can be sold in a Nordic country. A few countries on mind are Finland, Sweden, and Denmark.

However, I can’t think of something that could be lacking in Nordic countries that could be taken from Canada and sold in a Nordic country.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Maple Syrup?

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Toy Mountie figures or even big foot figures??

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

this is my "Tukka" and honestly not my forte

how about wood/ lumber issue with usa, isn't canada trying to sell that in europe and I have no clue of Nordic countries.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Oil.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Oil and lumber both sound reasonable. However, would Nordic countries really want oil from us? Aren't they already getting their fair share from other oil producing nations?

Also, part of the assignment requires picking an industry and finding five companies in that industry. I'm sure I'll be able to find five companies in the lumber industry, but are there at least five Canadian oil producing companies in the industry?

Maple syrup is something that could be looked into as well, I suppose.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Apart from Norway, which has its own oil fields, the others are oil importers. If you look on the internet you may be able to find details.

Canada certainly has many oil producing companies. If you consider locally registered companies owned by foreign companies to be Canadian (since they technically headquartered in Canada, despite foreign ownership).

Imperial Oil, (about 70% owned by ExxonMobil) comes to mind as a Canadian company (headquartered in Toronto) that’s mainly owned by an American multinational. Imperial Oil runs Esso petrol stations here. Look around and you may find others.

Alternatively, you could try planes and trains. Bombardier, which is I think based in Quebec, exports airoplanes all over the world. It also wont he contract to manufacture trams for London, the capital of the UK. Bombardier also makes subway trains for Britain I think, and it makes normal overland trains too.

hockey players?

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

What about the mountie and bigfoot dolls?

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Oil is not a problem in Nordics, Norway produces enough Oil. Neither is timber. I'd say only thing that Canada can export to Nordics is Telecommunication equipment (Nortel) etc.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

what about seal pelts?

the ones from thos white lil baby seals

teh ones that are only a few days old

they'ed make nice fur collars and boot trims

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Maddy, thanks. Bombardier is something we could look into.

Najim, that's what we figured out Nordic countries in terms of exporting oil.

We're thinking of seafood. I noticed it is one of Canada's main industries, however, not quite the case for one of the Nordic countries.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Wont work, Nokia and Ericcson both major telecom companies are Nordic based these two key players have like 80% of the market. Seafood could be an option. Did u finish the assignment?

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Danish Born Desi,

Bhaee, Nokia & Ericcson, dont make Telecommunication gateways, I work in this industry so I know what is Nortel making & where it is implemented. Nokia & Ericcson are good in GSM but I am talking about Telecommunication, full exchanges plus several other accessories offered by the landline companies, Data gateways & backbone structure etc.

Re: Canada and Nordic countries

Thank you guys.

I finished the project a few weeks ago. We ended up exporting steel and related products and we chose Alcan, which is a Canadian company.
