Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Yes…premature like many other frustrated thread today…
but seems curtains for Paksitan in the WC07…if not today (really unlikely) then pretty soon though.
Lets assume, Inzi will retire or atleast be removed from Captaincy..then Can Younis lead this team to some greater heights?

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

If Inzi is bad Younis is worse!!!!!
he is going to drag Pakistani team from a deep pit to a deeper one!

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

I’m agree with Teelbhain :teary2:

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Younis can not perform under pressure.. simple as that :)

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

AQ let's not generalise here? Have you already forgotten Younis's two recent match-winning knocks under pressure, second test second innings and second ODI against South Africa.

There has been too much hype about Inzi lately. He has done nothing of note in the last year or for that matter in the 4 world cups since 1992. I for one think that Miandad is the greatest Pakistani batsman ever under pressure.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

two knocks (one test and one ODI) can not be compared with the two cruical matches of World Cup when it was needed the most. He failed :naraz:

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Then what about Inz and MO YO? Inzi has been struggling for runs for the best part of the last 15 months or so

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Was that the question and topic of this thread?

khair now that you have asked, Inzi has more pressure winning innings to his name so we can not blame him every time... Mo Yo.. well.. he was a vice captain and sacked so dun blame him too :p

question and title of the thread is about YOUNIS KHAN.. stay on topic :p

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Captaincy and taking team to higher feats has much more to do with the grooming the youngsters, making the right plans, having a good strategy, improving you're weak areas, eg fielding...and not just about playing match winning knocks.

Younis might not win us as many matches as Inzi did under pressure, but Younis as a captain will be much much better compared to Inzi. Give him enough time and opportunities like Inzi was given.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

younis is an attacking captain and can lead Pakistan much better than any captain

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Coming to the thread topic, I am not so sure. A captain is only as good as the team. While Pakistan will always remain a formidable outfit, I don't think we will ever be consistent or disciplined enough as a team to be world-beaters. Younis definitely has the potential to be a very good captain but only time will tell if he has it in him to mould this team into a fighting unit. Whoever is chosen to succeed Inzi, must be given time to prove himself as captain because captaincy is not a skill you are born with, it's something you learn on the job. So don't expect a turn-around in results over-night.

We know our fielding will always remain bad (it was never brilliant even during Imran's era). Batting has always been the bane of Pakistan cricket. During the 80s, Pakistan was a one-man (Miandad) batting line-up. As long as he was at the crease Pakistan were in the game. It's our batting more often than anything that has let the team down in crucial matches. All teams collapse every now and then but with Pakistan this has been happening worryingly on a more regular basis since 1999.

I know it's kind of cliched but until and unless we prepare better pitches (with grass and bounce and pitches helping seam movement) in Pakistan, we will continue to struggle on such surfaces abroad and today showed that on such grassy surfaces we are nor safe even against minnows.

Inzi's biggest failing IMO has been his stubbornness and his unwillingness to try new players out. He has been in charge for almost 4 years so can't complain. Had we had a more dynamic captain than Inzi, I am sure Samiullah Niazi, Jamshed Ahmed, Anwar Ali and Fawad Alam among others would have all played one-day or test cricket by now.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Shoaib Malik for Captain!

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07 ?

Yes, if you consider today's performance as a feat. You might see "greater ones" under Younis.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Problem is not with the people. It is the process. Damn it.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

bring on the under 19s...and inzi have the decency to immediately retire and tender his resignation...b4 the zimbabwe game

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Younis is a joke when it comes to one day games. I don't mind him being the captain of the test side but for one days he should not even be in the team. We should have Yousaf or Shoaib as captain of Pak one day team.
We also need some new blood. Look at this Bangladesh Tamim guy. I was smitten by his strokeplay.
Imagine that we have come to the point that we are getting impressed by Bangladesh players. Hats off to them for their hard work and hunger to win

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

Yeah. Bangladesh has some exceptional young talent, no doubt. Looks like the balance of power of Asian cricket is slowly but surely moving to Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, where as Pakistan and India seem hopeless. Especially India. I honestly do not see any good, young promising talent on their squad. At least we have Mohamed Asif.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

^ then please Congratulate to Mohammad Asif :hehe:

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

You can laugh all day long. But the only captainship material in the team is Shoaib Malik. The guys has not only very sharp cricketing brain, but is a known fighter. He has led Sialkot to many victories and have launched them as the real threat for Lahore and Karachi's dominance in Pakistan cricket. His fighting spirit and never give up mentality is similar to Khan sahib.

Re: Can Younis Khan lead this side to greater feats post WC 07

^
agreed.. he's a captain's attitude as well..
