Ponting was dropped. and so was Wasim Akram after 2003 worldcup, Ponting was dropped earlier in his career.

Viv Richards was never dropped from tests in his career. He retired from test cricket only after the series in England in 1991. He had made himself available for 1992 World Cup but was overlooked for the event by WICB and captain Richie Richardson
