can you figure it out?

ok this riddle or saying was said to me by my mamoo…It took me a while to figure it out and he had to explain it to me as well..
I thought it was interesting so i am posting it here:

“rangi nu narangi aakhan
kharay dhoodh nu khoya
chaldi nu gaddi aakhan
Wali Bakhsh bai ke roya”

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

Sehar his belongs to Kabir, and last verse is lik this

Dekh Kabira Roya

He is comparing NARANGI (no color) with Rangi, as you know NArangi has color.

And the milk which is in front of you called Khoya (lost)

Chaldi (running) is called gaddi (halted)

This was orignally said by Kabir, I'll give his verses or may be Chan knows. I can post more of his work here, I did in poetry section and I guess no body understood and had no response so I stopped posting it.

Like he said.

Moko Kahan Dhundhere Bande
Main To Tere Pass Mein
Na Teerath Mein, Na Moorat Mein
Na Ekant Niwas Mein
Na Mandir Mein, Na Masjid Mein
Na Kabe Kailas Mein
Main To Tere Pass Mein Bande
Main To Tere Pass Mein
Na Main Jap Mein, Na Main Tap Mein
Na Main Barat Upaas Mein
Na Main Kiriya Karm Mein Rehta
Nahin Jog Sanyas Mein
Nahin Pran Mein Nahin Pind Mein
Na Brahmand Akas Mein
Na Mein Prakuti Prawar Gufa Mein
Nahin Swasan Ki Swans Mein
Khoji Hoye Turat Mil Jaoon
Ik Pal Ki Talas Mein
Kahet Kabir Suno Bhai Sadho
Mein To Hun Viswas Mein

Translation:

Where do you search me?
I am with you
Not in pilgrimage, nor in icons
Neither in solitudes
Not in temples, nor in mosques
Neither in Kaba nor in Kailash
I am with you o man
I am with you
Not in prayers, nor in meditation
Neither in fasting
Not in yogic exercises
Neither in renunciation
Neither in the vital force nor in the body
Not even in the ethereal space
Neither in the womb of Nature
Not in the breath of the breath
Seek earnestly and discover
In but a moment of search
Says Kabir, Listen with care
Where your faith is, I am there.

http://www3.pak.org/gupshup/smilies/smile.gif

and khoya? isn’t that cheese? or something?
gaddi = car? i didn’t know it meant halted?

Johnd.. that was really nice!!! Please post more of kabir’s stuff.

Main to teray paas main banday
main to teray paas main

Wow!

Johnny, are you sure its Kabir?? doesn't seem like his style. I think its Amir Khusro Dehlvi, but i might be wrong.

No Naiko it is Kabir, let me give you more of his work

Chalti Chakki Dekh Kar, Diya Kabira Roye
Dui Paatan Ke Beech Mein,Sabit Bacha Na Koye

Looking at the grinding stones, Kabir laments
In the duel of wheels, nothing stays intact.

Bura Jo Dekhan Main Chala, Bura Naa Milya Koye
Jo Munn Khoja Apnaa, To Mujhse Bura Naa Koye

I searched for the crooked, met not a single one
When searched myself, "I" found the crooked one

Jab Tun Aaya Jagat Mein, Log Hanse Tu Roye
Aise Karni Na Kari, Pache Hanse Sab Koye

When you were born in this world
Everyone laughed while you cried
Conduct NOT yourself in manner such
That they laugh when you are gone

I don't know how Kabir came in here but it is interesting.

What Sehar posted is a Paheli/bujharat. It could be by some famous poet but that is besides the point. We still have not solved it. zehan pe zor lagao banday ke putro awein katt paste na karo:)

hmm so we still have a doubt as to who it is written by?

“rangi nu narangi aakhan
kharay dhoodh nu khoya
chaldi nu gaddi aakhan
Wali Bakhsh bai ke roya”

narangi (an orange) is something that is colored and we call it na-rangi, meaning it has NO color…

we call pure milk khoya after it has been boiled enough, but its still milk but called khoya (something that is lost)

gaddi is referred to a car, something mobile but “gaddi” literally means something that is halted or stopped…like kissay cheez nu “gadd” dena zameen wich

and the last line refers that the peot cried. The reason he cried was because the society is ajeeb, we name things completely opposite of what they actually mean. Oxymorons are implied  The world works in a opposite way. I don’t know if i make much sense here

I think the main idea of the saying was that the society is too clever for innocent people. You try to make sense of things in one way, and things actually work the opposite way.

rangi nu narangi aakhan
kharay dhoodh nu khoya

Man! this shair is so addictive...I have used it at least 15 times since morning ...its wierd goras don't get it...maybe cuz its in punjabi.

BoSS, I can see why you like the first line so much, and why you'd even like your tongue to slip in the process. Man, you are pervert!
