I am watching Wolf Blitzer interviewing Fleming Rose, the editor of the Danish paper that started the whole cartoongate on CNN. He is saying that you can buy posters and picture cards in Iran that show the prophet. Is that true?

The posters in Iran depict Hazrat Ali (ra), and Imam Hassan (ra) and Imam Hussain (ra), but not the Prophet (pbuh).

What do you mean "possibly"? Have you seen one? I don't believe you will find any pictures or post cards of the Prophet (Peace be upon him) any where in the muslim world.

I have seen a picture an Irani buddy showed me. It was of the Prophet (pbuh) and Hazrat ALi.
If they still sell them in Iran or not, I don't know.
I told him it was wrong to do such things, but he seemed to suggest that Iranis have no problem with such depictions.

There is plenty of centuries old Persian and central asian art that depicts the Prophet (saw) but nothing in the way of posters, let alone being sold.

You are right !!! Yes it is available but only in IRAN. I myself was there in Mashad visiting and I was stunned to see the portraits of Hazrat Muhammad (S.a.W), Imam Ali (a.s), Sayda Fatima (a.s) and all the Imams. Althogh its written that it is just how he would look like.

I have seen many pictures/depictions of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in Persian, Mughal, and Ottoman art - typically the facial features are left blank, or a veil is placed over the face.

i remember my parents being outraged at seeing iranian portraits of Hazrat Ali when I was a kid. Im not sure if they make pictures of the Prophet, but I know even for ahle bait its discouraged but done through ignorance.

in that case atleast one part of the arguement in the current cartoongate is invalid - that it is against religious sentiments to portray the prophet. If muslims are doing this in a islamic theocratic country such as iran then you cannot blame others.
However that still doesn't make the reason why the paper conducted the exercise.
