Yasir Ashfaq, 23 years old, computer science, self supported, loving
son, and a brother of 2 sisters, is in a Coma. September 6th 2000, Last
year, Yasir, was on his way to Lunch Break, and got in a CAR accident. A
pickup hit him on the drivers side and the impact was so strong and sudden
that the entire drivers seat came undone and totally flipped over! Since that
day he is in a Coma at Alta Bate Hospital in Berkeley.
His parents are sitting next to him and praying for him, 24 hours, the
prognosis said that his chances are one in a many many million and he has a
zero chance to come back to life!
I, Annie Akhter, went myself to the hospital and saw Yasir and his
Parents. It was so devastating to see a young man laying on the bed and not
even knowing where he is or what has happened to him. I was looking at the
face of his Parents where I saw hope and faith and many tears.
I spoke with the parents and they said that the Doctor gave them
permission to take Yasir back to Karachi, Pakistan, because his chances are,
to get well, is very low, it could take 2- 20 years and still maybe nothing
happens! They need to go back to Pakistan because the parents have two other
daughters there (ages: 19 and 21) that need them as much as Yasir needs them.
I asked the parents what we, the people, can do for them? They replied that
they need a lot of financial help. For example, we’ve been talking with the
Airline, and they said they have to remove 6 seats to make the stretcher fit
in.
This means they (the parents) have to pay for 6 tickets! Yasir needs a
medical technician so if something happens during the journey he can take
care of Yasir, though the parents also have to buy round-trip tickets for the
medical technicians! They also need to buy medical supplies and the medicines
for Yasir’s future treatment.
Mr. and Mrs. Ashfaq Khan’s ticket will be expired in August. They would
like to leave before September.
Like I said, Yasir Ashfaq is in a coma, and the doctor said only a
miracle can help him!
