Okay go to ur hotmail and remeber they ask for an alternate email address??
To go that alternate email address and from there change the apssword of your email.........And as for hacking i know have the process.....
I need the last to part hacking which i dont......if i fnd out the complete thing i will let u know.....

THE MWAG .... someone can hack your account either by guessing your password (e.g. through Dictionary attack) or having a keylogger installed on your system. Sniffing the traffic going out of ur system won't help much because i know hotmail/msn passwords go well encrypted.
Your account was hacked possibly because you might have a weak password and someone got its bits & pieces from you through social engineering. OR you have a keylogger on your system that records every key you type and sends/uploads it to the place hacker wanted.
As for the recovery is concerned, try changing your password through your 'Secret question' and if you are lucky and given alternative email then change password from there. If not, make a new account on hotmail, and forget the older one.
Also, check your system for any keylogger. Search for any good/trusted anti-keylogger in google. If i'd find any, i will put the link.
