Reviving an old thread. Since its almost Eid ul Adha time and most of us know that there are many many needy people in Pakistan, specially the flood victims.
What is the ruling?? Is it okay to donate our Qurbani money vs doing the actual qurbani?? I was going through a thread where many Gsers mentioned they’ll be donating their money to flood victims.
Also who/what is considered as saheb-e-nisb??

i don’t thin k so. money can ONLY be donated if you are forbidden to slaughter the animal in an Islamic way of zibaH and you can NOT arrange Qurbani anywhere else n the world.
However, the Qurbani meat can be donated. i
in short, the act of Qurbani can NOT be replaced by any other act. it’s part of 'Ibaadaat.
you can give sadaqah on the side if you wish and/or you can afford it.

My hisa of qurbani meat is going straight to the flood affected.
To put it in numbers, in USA, on the day of eid if you have at least USD 4000 in your possession that you don’t owe to anyone, then qurbani is wajib on you

saaHib-e-nisaab is the one who has certain amount in the bank or properties in his/her name AND a whole calendar [lunar] has passed. that amount is AFTER deducting ALL the liabilities.
this amount varies from country to country depending upon the exchange rate.

So I believe Qurbani is a Sunnat vs Fard. So lets say people who aren’t doing it (or donating money), aren’t earning extra sawab right? They won’t be asked on judgement day why didn’t they do Qurbani (vs lets say being asked about namaz or zakat).

it’s NOT farz on everyone. it’s farz on saaHib e nisaab only so if you want to do something good over and above the required rituals then it will be counted as ‘sadaqah’ even if your intentions are to do the farz [due to erroneous belief] and that individual will get enormous sawaab but not equal to qurbani.
My understanding is that qurbani is wajib, not fard.

it’s Fard on those who are considered saaHib-e-nisaab. if someone has money, he/she got no excuse unless that person doesn’t care for religious obligations.

What’s the diff b/w wajib and fard? I’ve been told it’s the same thing.
Is this Ibadat included in five pillars? It’s wajib according to hanafi, and sunnah according to shafi, hanbali and malik.
if its the same thing then why two different names ?
Basic difference is if you on purpose ignore fard, you will be considered kaafir, but if you on purpose ignore wajib, you will be sinner, but will still remain a Muslim.

as i said, it’s NOT universally fard on ALL Muslims, it’s rather Fard on those who are assessed “saaHib-e-nisaab”. that’s what i believe.

anyone who does that, even intentionally, is NOT a Kaafir…anyone who admits that with his tongue is Kaafir…isii liye kahte haiN k jab tak insaan zabaan se na kah de us par Fufr kaa fatwa nahiiN lag saktaa…isii liye kahte haiN “iqraar bil lisaan” yaa ''iimaan filbil qalb/lisaan".

Why is this so confusing?? Why cant it be you have to do qurbani… That’s it.. If you can afford it. Similar to Hajj, you should go do it if you can afford it.

it’s NOT fard on everyone simply because not everyone can afford it. what if it was fard, what the poor people would have done? loot maar? lolz
