If God is discussing a female leader in the Quran in a POSITIVE and PRAISWORTHY sense, does it make much sense for the Rasul to ban women from leading in anything, whether it be an army or a state or an after-school highschool organization?
Clearly someone had misunderstood the Prophet's words, or fabricated them for their own puposes. And there is a LARGE amount of evidence that shows this hadith was never seen before Aisha (I think it was her) decided to LEAD A BATTLE against the prevailing regime. Now that was just a coinkidink wasn't it?
As for comparing it to King Suleman, he is praised as an individual and as a leader. There is no mention of praising the fact that he was leading in the form of a kingship instead of a democracy or a republic. And, also, you're comparing apples with oranges since democracy/republic/ etc are all forms of government which change depending upon the environment and various forms of government are viable Islamically as long as the Islamic principles are adhered to...it makes no difference if you've got a circle of wise men, one king, or a parliament making decisions. As long as the principles are Islamic and the goals and behavior is Islamic, its all good. But with a woman leading, its different, because the concept of a woman leading is not a political system in itself. There will be good female leaders and bad ones. That is reality and we've seen it. Same goes for male leaders.
And by the way, why would Aisha, being a devout woman go against the "supposed" mandate of Rasul for women to not "lead" and instead go out and lead an army (an unheard of thing in that part of the world at that time)! After all, didn't someone say the Sahaba are the best examples of true muslims?
Gudia you have taken my post in a way that it was intended to be. I was pointing out that there have been numerous examples given in the Quran about previous civilizations etc.

I only pointed out to those who refute a woman ruler that Quran does mention a successful, honest, intellegent, believing women ruler.
From my understanding, Quran does not hold one form of governing better than the other. When talking of law & order, it stresses on the need for justice (Adal -o- Insa'af) and establishment of a welfare state so the difference between the rich & the poor be reduced.
A woman cannot be leader as there is numerous evdience to say it is not her job. This is not saying woman is less than a man or cannot do the job it is simply that it is not her role.
As an example it is not fard for woman to fight jihad for man it is fard.
Woman does'nt have to provide anything in money terms for her husband. the husband must provide for his wife.
Leader of state is not a role for the woman she can be judge or within the government structure. But the hadith clearly indicates those who choose the woman as leader will not be successful. When a matter has been decided by muhammad(saw) and allah(swt) who are we to argue.
Islam and democracy CAN exist together, but pakistani islam and democracy cannot.
and with respect to the example of 33-33-34. and the latter is chosen thus neglecting the remaining 66. In this case it shouldn't be a 'winner takes all'-mentality like in the US, but form a cabinet, like in European countries.
