Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne? I think Muralitharan definetly can he plays in this form. He always become man of the match for Sri Lanka. In fact, he is only the one to take more wickets in Sri Lanka.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

I also think Muralitharan can break Wasim Akram's world recording of ODI wickets. Because spinners tend to play at longer age than fast bowlers. Also, Wasim Akram retired a little bit early.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Murali is only 25 wickets behind Warne, and per match is taking about 2 more wickets than Warne......so even if Warne continued it was a matter of time Murali would have surpassed him.

after the WC Australia will tour Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka will host Bangladesh. That would have been nice for both bowlers

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Murli will pass Warne.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

**this year murli has taken 90 or 90+ wickets **
agar us ke yahi form barqaraar rahi to next 3 matches mai he will pass warne

wesay last 5 tests mai us ke aik match mai kam say kam wickets 9 hain

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

warne is going to retire after 5 test match
so its mean warne have only 2 more test to go

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

I wud dare to say that Murali is already ahead of Warne, he has taken 5 wickets in an innings 57 times, just imagine 57 times in just 110 test matches, while warne has done it 36 times in 143 tests. And he Murali has taken 19 times 10 wickets in a test while Warne 10 times.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Very true - 90 wkts at 16.90 in only 11 tests in 2006

Murali

Warne took 96 wkts in 2005

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Because of the media hype about the Ashes (as if only Ashes performances count for anything) in both England and Australia, people tend to believe that Warne is better than Murali. Already they are looking forward to the next Ashes in 2009! English players in particular often give the impression that only Ashes matter to them and that every other series is a preparation for the next Ashes, a practice series. I remember when Pakistan landed in Britain in April 2006, how Collingwood and others were already talking about the importance of being ready for the next Ashes in Australia with a total disregard for Pakistan series. I thought that was quite rude and inappropriate. Warne took 40 tests in 5 Ashes tests in 2005. Murali took 24 test wickets in 3 tests in England this Summer (i.e the same ratio of wkts/test) but they went almost unnoticed by the English media. On the other hand even in defeat Warne's 40 wickets were hyped no end by the English press.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Murli will definately surpass warne but i have a strong feeling that he will never get the same respect as warne. the western media will always praise warne more than murli

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

I think it could be due to the chucking label he got when he first burst on the scene. I am pretty sure Western Media still regards him as a chucker instead of a normal bowler so they will always have an execuse to put Warne ahead of Murali.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

Yes Murli will surpass Warnie, unless Warnie take a 360 on his decision.

Re: Can Muralitharan surpass Shane Warne?

^ You mean a 180, not 360 :)
