India is tipped to add nearly 241 million in the working-age population compared with China, which will add a meager 10 million during the course of this decade.

India’s economy may expand more than China’s in the next 10 years if the world’s second- most populous nation lifts curbs on foreign investment in retail and boosts spending on roads and bridges, Nouriel Roubini said.
“I’m very optimistic about India’s future growth” because the economy is driven by domestic demand while China relies more on exports, the New York University professor and chairman of Roubini Global Economics who predicted the global financial crisis said in New Delhi yesterday. “The challenge for India will be to sustain 9 percent growth and at the same time keep inflation under control.”
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
Your name suits you a lot.
Typical bhindian mentality.
Pakistan didn’t grow 0%, give me facts not cow dung from india.
Even with the floods this year Pakistan gdp growth was 4%. India in the past has seen negative growth rates but Pakistan has never, since 1947 Pakistan’s gdp growth has always grown never declined.
Btw China has just announced over 15 billion dollars of investment in Pakistan, Sweden has vowed to invest billions in the energy sector. By 2012 Pakistan is expected to grow over 7%.
So stop your bharti obsession for Pakistan and deal with your 700 million poor. A new report came out saying that India is more poor than all of Africa.

No, never, its a well established fact. Please do not copy paste any facts referenced to revisionist Indian academias. It's just way too lame.

India is facing extraordinary competition from countries like China. If India wants to become a global leader, it has to move into productive and creative areas. Concentrate on producing more scientists for undertaking innovative research. India needs good scientists and quality researchers with a spirit of dedication. India must promote rural talent, which is in abundance. Unlike in China, parents in India are proud to send their kids abroad.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
china has not overtaken USA....so india can't overtake china....
This is because there is no Innovation in China as compared to US.

India, China growth race 'silly', says Nobel winner
by Staff Writers
New Delhi (AFP) Feb 14, 2011
India's leading economist, Nobel Prize winner Amartya Sen, dismissed on Monday the "silly" obsession of comparing the economic growth rates of China and India.
In a lengthy critique of the practice, Sen argued that New Delhi was far behind in the growth race, but more importantly it lagged in other criteria that showed real living standards were far inferior in India.
"Despite the interest in this subject (of comparing India's eight-percent growth to China's 10 percent)... this is surely a silly focus," Sen wrote in The Hindu.
Growth as estimated by gross national product (GNP) was an arbitrary measurement, he said, and "the lives that people are able to lead -- what ultimately interests people most -- are only indirectly and partially influenced by the rates of overall economic growth".
In an unflattering portrait of his country, Sen drew on data from World Development Reports of the World Bank and Human Development Reports of the United Nations to show China far ahead on most criteria.
Life expectancy at birth in China was 73.5 years compared with 64.4 years in India; Infant mortality rate is 50 per thousand in India and just 17 in China, and the under-five mortality rate is 66 for Indians and 19 for the Chinese.
China's adult literacy rate is 94 percent, compared with India's 65 percent, and mean years of schooling in India is 4.4 years, compared with 7.5 years in China, he said.
"Almost half of our children are undernourished compared with a very tiny proportion in China," Sen added.
"Comparing ourselves with China in these really important matters would be a very good perspective, and they can both inspire us and give us illumination about what to do -- and what not to do," he said.
India's finance minister and prime minister routinely refer to their target of double-digit economic growth, which they say is required to make a dent in India's enormous poverty numbers.
India and China, which both have billion-plus populations, are often grouped together by analysts and pundits as Asia's emerging powerhouses despite their different levels of development and diplomatic influence.
Sen said that growth in GNP, a statistical measure of economic output by citizens of a country, was enriching many Indians, but the focus on the new affluent middle classes obscured the larger picture.
"Those gains are, of course, good, and there is nothing wrong in celebrating their better lives through economic growth... but the exaggerated concentration on their lives, which the media tend often to display, gives an incomplete picture of what is happening to Indians in general," he said.
Sen won the Nobel prize for economics in 1998.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
I personally don't think so coming from an Economics background.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
You have a good reasons as i did not realize how those can affect a country economy but i think china will find a way to over come those problems.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
India cannot over take China because we do not compete on the same level. The reliability of Chinese economic data is highly suspect. The Chinese govt reports what is convenient for it and shoves inconvenient pieces of data under the carpet.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
Hard to stay who will stay on top, will have to watch next 10-15 years...
I am not too learned about china's economy but these could be the reasons china might stay on top for a while:
1) education
2) healthy population
3) less corruption(as compared to india, and trust me when I am saying corruption is rotting the roots, every week there are atleast a dozen multi multibillion dollar corruption scandles popping up)
4) optimal use of resorces, be it human, natural etc.
5) long term planning
India got it edges mainly because of manmohan singh`s policies, and that did stir the world economy but once he leaves the office there will be a big void. Not sure if parnab mukharjee or rahul gandhi as as capable economically as dr MS. But regardless of the social, corruption, health and other issues plauging it is still going strong. Indian resources are not used to its max, if that can be done by planning and discipline then india might be on its way to be the top econ. Another major problem is the racial or extremist issue, one big such issue can cause a major dent in the long term growth.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
Such a joke. I don't know why Indians love to engage in delusional thinking they will take over the world.
PLEASE fix your domestic problems first before dreaming of taking over other nations. Take care of your children, promote education, eradicate poverty, HIV, extreme gender discrimination and the caste system and maybe then you can think of taking over China. India has a THIRD of the world's poor! A THIRD!!!!
And yeah the only way India can take over China is by population.
Re: Can India overtake China is coming years?
^ but lets not get carried away with india and its problem, if india uses its potential even with that third of the world poor population it CAN do wonders...a big indicator of a country's economic state is also determined by how much saving its population has and indian have TONSSS of that. Esp in south ppl live WAAAYYY below their means, and don't waste money showing off what they have.
In india a lot of business still being done by cash, which is black in most cases, + ppl sending money out of country bc of high taxes....the potentail is there just waiting to be exploited fully...
In india most of the educated populattion is learned and very entrepreneuring
BTW I am PAKISTANI origin living in INDIA at the moment... incase you are wondering why I am looking at india's + points...
