Can I sue them?

They did not let me take the GMAT when I provided my green card as a form of identification. Their site clearly states
Presenting Proper Identification

I am already taking graduate level courses on a condition that I’d have to sit for the exam before a certain date… so I basically lost a semester. Can I sue them??

Re: Can I sue them?

oh and they wont be refunding the money since I failed to present proper identification..

Re: Can I sue them?

Wow. They said they can't let you take the test even though you had proper ID?

Re: Can I sue them?

Did you talk to the customer service people about it?
Honestly, you're probably not getting anything back.

Re: Can I sue them?

This is discrimination, pure and simple. If you're up for it, talk to a lawyer about suing. I think you have a legitimate reason, especially if the website states that your green card can serve as a valid ID.

Do you have the name(s) of the people that refused to let you take the exam that day?

Re: Can I sue them?

These statements seem kinda confusing. Even if you are PR of USA, you still need to show passport because you would be taking exam outside of your citizenship country but if you are US citizen, this green card thing is pointless ( or is there something I am missing?)

Re: Can I sue them?

^ I don't know if I am comprehending it right but the link given above lists all the exceptions where you don't necessarily need to present a valid passport.
@ Sara- they wanted to see my green card along with a valid Pakistani passport. ( my passport is expired, wasnt planning on renewing it)
@ ahmed- their representative was like oh u are a permanent resident and can show ur gc but since ur country of citizenship is PAkistan, you cant.. wth? ( another 10 bucks I wasted on their racist customer service)
@ schmeardo- I am waiting on their email.. I am gonna see if I can take the matter to a claim court. And I dont remember their names :

Re: Can I sue them?

^yeah you are right about the exception part but its the country thats the issue (and thats what I thought too)

I guess they should have a separate instruction list for pakistanis

Re: Can I sue them?

You should be able to get your money back for this sitting - in other words, they should let you sit the next session for free or give you a refund.

Did you take the proctor's name and ID? I'd escalate it - they'd be foolish to not give you back your money. Do you have anything in writing from them for whay they didn't let you take the exam?

Agree with shehrysh... they should acknowledge their mistake and give you your money back

Re: Can I sue them?

Update:
I went to the center with the evidence even called the customer service again but they did not budge.. so took the matter to my uni.. they also had long conversations with them… but they insisted I should have referred to the so called GMAT handbook ( where on earth I am gonna find it?? ).. So my uni decided they are going to sue them..
not sure if I am gonna recover damages but oh well.
and..
the uni is giving me one more conditional semester

Re: Can I sue them?

Don't know what a conditional semester is. But hope you end up in good condition.

http://www.mba.com/the-gmat/test-day/presenting-proper-identification.aspx

“You are a permanent U.S. resident testing in the United States, in which case you may present a passport book OR permanent resident card (green card”

Based on the info here I don’t see why they did not allow you. I think they owe you am answer

Re: Can I sue them?

coz they are douche bag and cannot interpret the info given to them. They asked me to refer to this handbook.

If it really means what they say it means then by the same token we could say
US permanent residents who are Saudi Arabian must also show their Iqama or
US prs from MExico can present their voters ID or
US prs from Iran can only make an appointment by phone and so on and so forth

anyways, My lawyer will take care of it.. I am not worrying about it anymore : )

Re: Can I sue them?

It was so nice of your university to file a lawsuit on your behalf.

Good luck!

Re: Can I sue them?

okay we sent them a letter explaining the whole situation and they contacted us like immediately. So they agreed to reimburse me the money for not only the first test ( the one they denied) but also the second test that I actually took. :D

say what?? :D

Re: Can I sue them?

Green Card is a valid piece of govt identification and as further posts showed, pakistani passport isn't related to it. Seriously, it is like saying that if you don't have a valid US passport, then you might as well not be a US Citizen....
