my daughter is 6 months now but being a premie her adjusted age is 4 months. I am confused if I can start her solids or not ? Physically her weight & height is in line with that of a 6 months old masha allah. She can sit wit support. Few days back I gave her a little piece of mashed banana and she ate it ! My mother is too anxious to start her solids , her ped is out of country and don’t know when he will be coming back
and if I can start her solids , what should I give her ? my mom says that we should give her half boiled egg mixed with butter, banana mashed (liquified) with milk and sooji.
do not start off with egg nor sooji... fruits... banana, apple, pear.. veggies u can give potato or carrot.
rice cereal or any other porridge like wheat, barley oats.
u can mix cereal with any veggy or fruit.. remember.. right now its not mean tto be a meal but just a tasting period for the baby.... so dont try to stuff her.. let her just taste a few tsps...
As Khawateen said, no milk or eggs, and no butter as well. These are highly allergenic foods that often cause reactions in children under a year old and may increase their chances of having food allergies later on.
Since her weight and height are in line with a six-month old, I think it's probably perfectly OK to start her tasting some solid foods. Rice cereal is ideal as noted above. Mashed banana is a favorite early food but you may want to consider emphasizing mashed vegetables like peas first, and to make her first fruits applesauce and pear sauce. Bananas are very sweet and since your child is starting to develop food preferences that will last a lifetime, it's probably best to try and avoid getting her too hooked on sugary/sweet flavors. :)
