There is nothing wrong to learn/know something from others even from shia fellow. What is right take it what is wrong leave it. Hadiths quoted by Nusairee both found correct. I asked a question and my question is well answered. Thanx Nusairee & Aqeel.

I do acknowledge that not 100 % of people with syed in their name r decedents of Prophet s.a.w. Some just added this to thier to earn the respect desendents of Prophet s.a.w were getting. Hence I wudnt challenge if u said “Not all syeds r real descendents of Prophet s.a.w”
However I fail to understand that how can you say no real descendants exist today? What do u think happend to decendents of Prophet s.a.w ? Where did they end ?
If u CANT answer this question then it will be easier to say yes they cud exist… Now We see alot of Hashmi’s, which is even few generatiosn before the Prophet s.a.w.
Now from Quran Surah-e-Kothar, If you know the back ground… Pagans use to call Prophet s.a.w Abtar and I am sure u know what Abtar is, hence Quran replied them saying… Enemy’s of Prophet s.a.w are Abtar.
What i take from this Surah is
Enemies use to call prophet s.a.w Abtar, which he wasnt-- Means he will have dencendants till end of world.

But the question remains that should I not give zakat to a family just because name is Sayed? If I ask them, will they ever accept that they are not real Sayed (I dont think that anyone would admit that they are fake Sayed). So what are the options then? Only one, that is not to give Zakat to any family that has Sayed in their name.
Not many people have cash lying around to give out to needy families as gift (anything outside compulsory Zakat), so really there is no way for us to help a needy Sayed family on regular basis then.

The reason why most of Shias are syed because they come from the same lineage... Hazrat Imam Hussain and Hassan... and their lineage... Just relate.. You'll get it. But if I was you, I would just simply avoid giving Zakat to Syeds because they are not eligible. I wouldn't take chances. There are other ways to help. You can give them money not in the name of Zakat. I am no expert in this, neither am I a super religious person but things that I am not super sure about or would take time out to do research, I just simply avoid.

That is true...
If a person 400 years ago choose to be become syed by name and started calling himself syed and told his family that we r decedents of Prophet s.a.w while he is not, then you cannot blame his great grandson for such mischeaf..... He has to act as a syed, He sdnt take zakat or Sadqa coz to him he is still a syed and Zakat and Sadqa are haram on him.
I am from Syed family and we r told to help syeds, coz they r not "mustahiq" of sadqa and Zakat. So its our responsibilty to make sure our close realtives r helped in tough times. I am sure all syed familes teach their kids same thing and it works out "Inshallah".

and that is what I meant when I said that " we are punishing them for being Sayed". I guess its totally irresponsible of people who started calling them Sayed and stripped themselves and their later generations off the privilege that Allah SWT reserved for them in case of financial need.

TLK, syed not being eligible for zakkat is to prevent the preferential treatment. If prophet’s family started accepting zakaat then every muslim would have wanted to give his family zakaat just out of love for them and many deserving would have been neglected. Now islam also tells muslims that one is not a true muslim until he loves prophet more than himself and his wealth. Prophet’s family by extension is part of that love and a muslim would not think twice in order to help a deserving syed family in anyway that he can. The whole debate about syed family being true descendent of prophet or not should not be the factor in this.
As for spare money, zakkat is based on fraction system and if you pay more zakkat means you are more wealthy and afford to help others beside the mandatory zakaat.

affordability is a very subjective term. Just because I can pay more zakat does not mean that I have more of extra cash that I can give away. If that was the criteria than Allah SWT would have set the Zakat percentage at an exponential scale already, so rich people would pay 5% zakat and relatively less richer would pay at 2.5%. But beause its set at 2.5, then it means that you are expected to take care of the one who are eligible, through that amount.

Kuch log Qarz-e-hasna ka ghalat matlab lete hein. Qarz to khushi se lete hein, per jab aap mutaalba karein to 'ha*n*sna' shuroo kar dete hein.

Give them Hadiya and not zakat. No need to dig their family lineage, one can accept their stance at face value, if they are not telling the truth the gunah will be on them, you will get reward for your niyyat inshallah.
