He is actually from Europe and is in Pakistan right now so can easily buy books that are avalibel there, but has to be in English. It would be great if i can get help from here as much as possible.

Giving him the address to a website would mean you are driving him towards a shia or a sunni site. Give him the Holy Quran, and let him build his own imaan. If you convince him via a sunni site, he will be led to believe shias are wrong, and vice versa, which wont put a very positive impression in his mind about Islam, since islam is not about "tafarraqa". So just let him read the Holy Quran from start to finish, and let him build his faith from there.

Akif
following on from your post....
Perhaps it might be better then to give the guy the Quran, the Bible and the testament so he can make up his own choice between the different relgions, and not just between shiaism or sunnism.

Of course the links are sunni... after all it is what we belive to be correct that we are gonna show him.

hmcq...It is assumed that the gentleman has himself made a choice to approach Islam since he has found a spiritual attraction in it. So the question of giving him Bible or any book other than The Holy Quran wouldnt make sense. As for the internet, suppose he goes to yahoo and types in "Islam". He will get a list of sunni, shia, mirzai, ismaili, nation of islam and loads of other sites. What impression does he get from that? He goes to 3 different sites, he learns 3 different things. Which one does he believe? If u look at the list of sites posted above, they include both shia and sunni sites. Thats why i said to let him study the Quran from start to finish, and allow him to nurture his own faith, since islam is not to be forced down anyones throat.

Well u guys the thing is that me being his good friend had thought and told him about Islam. What i told him made alot of sense to him and he said that if he is to become a Muslim then he wants to do it from his heart and would like to get as much info as possible and would also like to read lots about if before he actually becomes a Muslim. As me being a sunni, he also is to become a Sunni and i too have adviced him to read the translation of Quran rather then checking out the websites alot. I do infact agree with you Akif because i too don't want to confuse him yet, he may know the differnce between shia, sunni and qadyani later but right now he is to become a sunni. Websites are also made by People like us and there could be mistakes there and there could be some things which aren't clear enough to some of us. So now i had told him to read the translation of Quran which ofcourse is the best and explains everything. Thank you so much to all of you for ur advise it did helped me alot. Please do pray for my great friend to chose the right path.

got your point Akif... I was assuming since Paki Khans was the one asking she would be able to guide him/her and therefore would know what to pick or not to pick..

The quran is great , but it alone can not give you everything .. for example the method of praying and how many rakus. So it is essential to read both the Quran ( as an opener to the true word ) and the Hadees and I would suggest that you get a book with the classical Hadees for him/her to practice the faith.

AsalamuAlaikum,

While I do agree with you Akif, but we should also remember that it is our duty to guide human beings to the right path. Ultimately paki khan's friend has to make his/her own decision, but let's not forget our part, to guide and show the truth.

Qur'an is probably "THE" BEST source for anyone to learn about Islam, but like the other brother said, there are things that'll need to be explained......
There is a book called "Authority of the Sunnah" by Justice Muhammad Taqi Usmani and I would highly reccomend this for anyone to read.
Paki Khan, if you can not find this anywhere, please let me know and I'll mail you mine....but please try to get this book for your friend...

Lately there are a lot of people joining this movement that believes that Qur'an alone is left to guide mankind and that ahadith are not needed.
That is a kufr belief as Allah swt tells us to "obey Me and the Messenger" and that "whatever the prophet says is a revelation".

So it does become our duty to ensure that the brother/sister is able to distinguish right movements from wrong/kufr movements.

Well said hmcq and baleya...we do need references from ahadees and sunnat, because basically sunnah is a practical demonstration of the Holy Quran. However, i believe that after reading the Holy Quran in its entirety, while one may not know how many rakats to read in zohar, he/she will definitely know how to chose the right path when confronted with a host of opinions from shia, sunni or mirzai scholars. He will be able to make a sane choice based on what he/she read in the quran regarding the Prophet SAW, and the revered sahaba. As for the accompaniments of the deen, we always need more sources. We can never have enough, and for that, we can refer as many good books as we can.

Asalam-o-Alykum
Thanks once again u guys. well as far as it goes to teach him how to read namaz and rukus and everything it is my duty to do that and i will do my best to help him with such things. Also he will be thought how to read Arabic so he can read Quran. yeah, very true that he should also study ahadees and sunnats at the same time. Thank u so much Baliya for ur offer, i will give him the name of the book and i think that he may be able to find it as he is visiting Pakistan right now. If not then i will do my best to provide him with it. You guys are a big help in this and i greatly appreciate it all.
