Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
No. God can only create something that can exist. Something over his abilities is an impossibility and cannot be created. Such a rock would seize being a creation.

Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
I do not see any thing illogical in this question nor do I see it as a trick question. It is a very simple thing really. Can God create a rock (or for that matter anything) that is so heavy that is even too heavy for him to lift? Men do that all the time, we create machines, blocks, buildings, and what not that even we cannot lift or even move. Even small birds or small insects construct nests or structures which after completion they themselves would not be able to lift. And we are mere mortals, God should definitely be more capable na?
Those complaining that we should not compare God to physical beings, but haven't we always heard of great men, prophets, and other superior beings of the past and some even in the present having "seen" God, listened to God, had conversations with God, experienced God. Don't all these paint a very physical picture of God or were all those people lying?
And comparing this with the wife beating question is really absurd, nobody asked a yes/no answer here. You can fill out reams of paper if you want but one only expects you to logically explain the answer, which shouldn't be very difficult if you know what you are talking about, and not go around in circles trying to catch your own tail. Isn't it so convenient that we will find out all logical reasoning in the world to explain the miracles of the Superior Being and convince ourselves of his presence but will shun logic as soon as we are faced with something we can't explain?

Your reasoning needs a bit of work. Look we define God first, as the Most Powerful, so by definition nothing can dominate God. However if we look at your reasoning instead what you are saying is this, that since men are capable at making rocks bigger than we can lift and God is more capable than us so why can't He do the same?
Ok let's ask the question another way. Humans are very capable at making mistakes, if God is more capable than us does that mean He can make bigger mistakes than us? The fact that humans can do things which make us powerless means we are limited in power, but the very definition of God is that He is The Most Powerful, we can't entertain a question that betrays that formula.
It's like saying God is The Most Powerful, but if God was not the Most Powerful then there is no God. This is a fallacy in argumentation.
Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
this is easy - OFCOURSE GOD CAN.
Man can create objects he cannot lift....alone or with others' involvement. (eg: house, furniture.....)
So creating something one cannot lift is really no big deal.

If anything is over God's possibility then that is not God really is it?
Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
Anything Made by ALLAH...can be dealt by ALLAH ....in any way ALLAH wants.
Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
Where a response requires a "can" or "can't" response but both conditions have problems, then the answer does not lie in the can - can't plane.
There are only two positions in this plane - can and can't ... there is no variable in between. So the answer will result in an infinite rebounding between one condition and the next at infinite speed, producing the response - error i.e. inconclusive.
The correct answer lies in another plane but it requires the question to be phrased differently. Instead of asking "can God", the question is "does God" - the answer is "no" - God does not create rocks too heavy for Him to lift. So this should satisfy the query of the atheist and hence disprove the notion that such argumentation can in any way disprove Him.
Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
The hypothetical sequence of infinite rebounding looks like this:
Note: This is mathematical and has no need to be connected to a 'real' meaning, but a model for our understanding only.
God is Capable
God Creates Rock Too Heavy to Lift
God is Capable
God Lifts the Rock
God is Capable
God Creates Rock Too Heavy to Lift
God is Capable
God Lifts the Rock
God is Capable
God Creates Rock Too Heavy to Lift
God is Capable
God Lifts the Rock
God is Capable
God Creates Rock Too Heavy to Lift
God is Capable
God Lifts the Rock ..... and so on.
In our scriptures we are told that God DOES NOT do pointless things. So such a thing would be totally pointless and achieve no end. So we conclude God does not create rocks too heavy to lift.
Re: Can God Create a Rock So Heavy He Can't Lift It?
We used to have very interesting discussions in my Philosophy of religion class and one day while discussing omnipotence paraodox we had a heated debate on can god create another god?
Fun times.

That is just a depiction of human mind's thinking, he can't go beyond what he sees i.e. kunwayn ke maindak. God does not need 'muscles' like us, so no question of 'lifting'.
