We know most religions believe it does because then nobody would believe in souls,hell, or heaven.

At some level, it should exist outside our body for us to resurrect. Maybe consciousness is a software and we are the hardware. Consciousness is sitting somewhere in a cloud and gets downloaded when a compatible hardware is available. Maybe the concept of reincarnation in Hinduism is nothing but the same software gets loaded into a hardware; hardware expires; software gets uploaded to the cloud; sits there and wait for the new compatible hardware to be available; ... well you know what I am trying to say here. That software always retains the memory from previous download. That is why people claim to be reborn and they remember where they lived in previous life and what not..

My beliefs dictate to me how I am to view consciousness and I cannot accept that the nature of individual souls is merely an apparent thing and we are really all part of one collective entity - or one soul ... However, the belief that all souls were formed from a single base material called The Spirit is compatible. To have come from God in the sense that His Divine Thought contained us is true, but that exists on a different plane to an actual existence. The actual existence of our form including our souls are from outside Himself - i.e. Created from Nothing ... in this way we cannot believe that we are part of Divinity but we cannot also say that there is no connection between us and Divinity. These two thoughts are on two different planes ... When we look at something we can say that we are connected to it - that we share something of ourselves - but in another form of perception sight is only light bouncing off items.
The soul has a creative reality that is external and not part of God - the nature of whom we know nothing about nor can we compare anything to. If we are one - it will be limited to one with creation and not to God or Divinity in any way, unless it is meant with a spiritual intent. That we can become one with God - i.e. aligned to His Requirement and Pleasure in us.
Consciousness has to be linked to life and life form - we seem to have a sense of knowing not only life form even if we have never seen it before - but we can also mentally classify it to be of a given level of consciousness in comparison to our knowledge of other forms. We may rank the consciousness of a mushroom higher than that of a bean plant ... and a monkey higher than a sheep. It is weird but we don't require amazing knowledge or education to be able to do this ...

Everything dies or evolves to another life form. When computers go bad or "die", they don't throw them away. Their parts get recycled, genius! Those parts then used in other electronics. It's similar to how we die and take a more ethereal form of life (depends on what you believe). In any case, EVERYTHING DIES AS YOU KNOW IT!

Deterioration of parts is not the only cause of human being's death. however, you cannot prevent the deterioration of part of human beings.
Moreover, you can repair super computer if it "dies" but you cannot repair human being once he/she is died. simple.
