Someone translated a poem of Mirza Ghalib, it was beautiful, I know a lot it lost in translation but can anyone translate poems into English so we can enjoy them too!
Re: Can anyone translate into English their favourite poems?
translating a poem is NOT an easy task...the translator must have a thorough command on both languages who can understand the intricacies of the language.
Re: Can anyone translate into English their favourite poems?
Of course it's not easy, I understand that. But I'm sure there are many guppans that have the ability do so!

which particular ghazal you want to be translated?
Re: Can anyone translate into English their favourite poems?
I have been told that this poem by Jagjeet " kakaz ki kashti, barish ka pani" is a childhood poem.
To be honest I would really like guppans to translate their own personal favourites because I don't know any.
Re: Can anyone translate into English their favourite poems?
why just Gappans [female gossipers]? why NOT Gappies [male gosiipers] too? you don’t like Gappies? ![]()
Re: Can anyone translate into English their favourite poems?
Oh no I thought guppans was in general, I wasn't aware of female or male terms.

Re: Can anyone translate into English their favourite poems?
i’ll try to translate a she’r [couplet] which i appreciate a lot:
**
nigaah-e-naaz kii kaifiiyateN haiN dil meN vohii
k rooH tan meN ho sheesha meN jis taraH ho parii**
[the effect of pure gaze in your heart must be same as
the soul in your body…like a doll in a glass-box!]
the beautiful soul = the beautiful doll
your body = glass-box

u r welcome...sure, why NOT...here is one for you:
**yeh to apnaa apnaa hai Hausla, yeh to apnii apnii uRaan hai
koii uR ke rah gayaa baam tak, koi kahkashaaN se guzar gayaa
its a very nice she'r, indeed! i do NOT know the name of the shaa'ir [poet]
Translation:
this is one's inspiration and this is one's flight of thought
some go up as high as the balcony while some go past the milky-way
the meaning:
the poet says that one gets what one strives for, all depending on how much energy and effort one puts in in his endeavours. in short, Allah rewards those who strive in His path according to his efforts, convictions, intentions and abilities :)**
