Hi everyone

I am already beginning to like you all ....

Just a quick addition (how could i forget this one!):

*Bapsi Sidhwa's "Cracking India" also titled "Ice-Candy man" *
-- partition story set in Lahore. Seen thru the eyes of a little girl. Parsi family. Hindu/muslim/sikh riots.
Be prepared to shed a few tears.

This is the book the movie earth 1947 (?) with nandita das, was based on.

p.s. no need to buy any of these books... most libraries will have them or be happy to order them for you.

Excellent idea :k:
I’m definately up for it. I will try to read some of the books mentioned in this thread. Maybe some of us can start reading at the same time and then later on discuss it?!

SO who else is up for it?!

**<This is the book the movie earth 1947 (?) with nandita das, was based on.> **

I loved this movie, good story :k: havent read the book though.

well for the bookclub to start.. whoever is up for it.. can all discuss a specific deadlien to get the same book by.. and then we can all read it.. and hopefully finish it around the same time.. so every1 can discuss diff themes an all the good an the bad stuff.. so no1 gets left behind this way

so shall i start a thread askin pplz to join in?????

^

Go for it!

^ Yes!

I have just checked out:

"the romantics" by pankaj mishra.

"In Custody" by Anita desai. (The movie was by Ismail Merchant.)

"In clear light of day" by Anita desai.

I am not suggesting these books ...(I'd feel terrible if they suck and I ruin everyone's time)!

I' just thought I'd share it with you all.

Look forward to suggestions!
