in a previous thread i said i wasnt loving the name fatima..after bit of thinking and research, i actually found that the name of the prophets pbuh daughter was fatima al-zahra..which i fell in love with…and so i said thats it, i like it.
so can this name have a surname…some people say ( not sure if its ignorance or real) that some name cant have sirnames..or it wouldnt make sense or something which i found absurd…
but does anyone know this…i like the name fatima al-zahra,however i want my kids to have surname too, not like the pakistani tradition of not having one. so is this ok?
i definitely know a girl name fatima al-zahra with a surname. the only thing is that the "al-zahra" will become a middle name because no one says the whole "fatima al-zahra" to refer to one person. esp on passport etc i've seen most people break it down so fatima is first name zahra is middle name and then whatever the surname will be is at the end.
I don't think its too common in Pakistan to not have a surname. Almost everyone has a surname.
I don't see a problem with giving your child a surname. As far as I know, its highly recommended in Islam that kids have their father's name attached to their name.
I thought it was Fatima-tuz-Zahra not Fatima al-Zahra?
.
The name is written as Fatima ul-Zahra, but pronounced as Fatima-uz-Zahra as L or Laam becomes silent in Arabic if followed by Z and Z becomes a double sound.
^ agree with TLK. The Laam in the "al" is not prononced and the alif joins with the "z". It's one of those shamsiya (sun) or qamaria (moon) letters..forgot which is what. and there should be an "H" at the end of faatimah as well.
I told you Faatimah Zahra was beautiful! glad you like it! May ur daughter be as beautiful as the name and pious as the person you are naming her after.
