yes it’s called khula, for a woman it’s khula for a man it’s called talaq. if the husband refuses, she has to seek a qadi who has the ultimate say in granting her the divorce as long as she fullfills the requirements of it like returning the mahr and reimbursing the husband for what he provided during the marriage…that’s as far as i know about khula, i might be wrong

Just as under western law, a marriage can be ended in either a divorce, or an annulment (khula).

Islamically, in a divorce, the dowry given to the woman is kept by the woman. In an annulment, the dowry is returned to the husband.

A man can unilaterally initiate a divorce, in which case the wife keeps the dowry. If we wants to retrieve the dowry, he has to petition a judge to grant an annulment instead.

A women can unilaterally initiate an annulment (khula), in which case she forfeits her right on the dowry. If she wants to keep the dowry but still end the marriage, she would have to petition a judge for a divorce.
