If Muslims conquers a country of a Mushrik people who are obviously neither Muslim nor People of the Scripture (Jews & Christians) what choices do they face? Are they allowed to practice their religion as long as they pay the Jizyah or do they have to convert or die, or do they have the choice of being expelled from the land?
I ask this because I get the impression that only a Christians/Jew can be a Dhimmi (Non-Muslim citizen in the Land of Islam protected by law).

How did you get this impression? After hindustan was conquered, the mushrik hindus were allowed to practice their religion, though I am not sure if conquerors of India at different times were really the standard-bearers of Islamic teachings or not.
