It’s easy for a good stripper to remove the first layer and help you get to the bare surface, but that doesn’t make that stripper a stud finder.
Also it has been noticed that wives don’t allow a powerful stripper at home. They claim that strippers have a strong smell, and they hate when they see thier husbands play with strippers.
It’s best to bring the stripper home only when the wife is not around. You also need some protection when dealing with a stripper. I also recommend to use a sponge if you don’t want your fingers to get wet.
Using a sponge, soak your wall paper and let it sit. Then it will be easy to peel it off your dry wall. To locate the stud, you still need a stud finder.
Good luck.

Hey DIY Master TLK…
…A few pointers about paint strippers from Wikipedia.
1- trial and error testing is typical to determine the best stripper for each application.
2- must be neutralized or the new finish will fail prematurely.
3- In addition, several side affects and health risks must be taken into account
4- some types of strippers penetrate and break the bond
5- serious health risks including death
6- some strippers cling even to vertical surfaces.
7- The principle of strippers is penetration by the active ingredient, causing its swelling
8- This volume increase causes internal strains,
9- Various co-solvents assist with penetration
10- Activators increase the penetration rate
11- assist with wetting the surface, increasing the area of where the solvent can penetrate
12-Strippers are excellent brush cleaners.
13- Thickeners are used prolonging the time the solvent can penetrate
14- under some conditions loses effectiveness, so fumed silica is used
15- Another possibility is using waxes
16-Heat guns are an alternative (TLK may want to get his hands on one of these)
A paint thinner is a solvent used to dilute oil-based paints or varnish. In this context, to dilute is also known as to 'thin'. Paint thinners are diluents. Solvents labeled "paint thinner" are usually white or mineral spirits.
Principally, paints are either a colloidal suspension of solid pigment particles or are an emulsion of dense viscous dye gel or paste with a filler all dispersed through a lighter free-flowing liquid medium — the solvent. This solvent also controls flow and application pr...

You don’t need a stripper to identify studs
Re: can a good stripper find a stud?
What does a stripper have to do with a stud? You need a stud finder to find studs. I won’t work ON you, but it will work for you.

Smart, deep studs can fool even experienced strippers.
