Can a farshi gharara be remade into something else???

I am hoping someone, maybe one of you homebased designers can give me some advice..I am wanting to know if I can remake my own bridal into something else. I had a farshi gharara, made out of self print kataan silk. I got married 13 years ago, but mashallah, my bridal outfit is still in pristine condition. The kapra used was excellent quality. My cousin in getting married in 2012, and my khala suggested that I send my gharara back to pakistan with someone and get it remade into a long shirt/chooridar type outfit. Is that possible?

I’m attaching some pics of myself (please excuse the pic quality…scanner at home is not working so I had to use my phone to take the pics!)…If someone could give me some ideas or suggestions, I’d much appreciate it!

It's pretty! I would personally not want to ruin the gharara. I would have a new shirt made in an updated style and a lighter duputta (chiffon so you can wear it easily).

What fabric is the duputta? You could have a shirt made from that... someone creative could add some other touches to it... other fabrics etc.

^ ditto. I wouldn't ruin my wedding dress, its a precious memory, keep it for your daughter/bahu. You can probably get another outfit made in the same amount as remaking this one.

Its beautiful! If you want to re-wear it...I'd make another shirt and dupatta but keep the gharara intact.

yup, i agree with what everyone here is saying- redo the kameez and dupatta to update it, you could even opt for adding some contrast piping to the bottom of the gharara if you want even more change, but i wouldn't tamper with it. also because it IS a lot of fabric but you'd need a skilled tailor who'd be able to sort it out one from the other and remake it without chopping it into pieces and ruining it. if your aunt is in karachi and you really have your heart set on remaking it into something else, i would suggest somewhere like barkha. shaheena aunty there know her stuff and she'd be able to at least consult with you on it and suggest ideas/alternatives.

Thanks everyone for your input!!! I agree, and think I'm going to let it be, I'll make a new, longer shirt and dupatta, that is not so heavy...;)
