Campaign News - Nader Factor

Since some of our esteemed guppies are forever touting the infinite wisdom of supporting a third party, this place on GS will be to track the progress (or lack thereof) of the campaign of Ralph Nader. Feel free to post your views, articles, and what not.

Cheer him or trash him… anything goes.

Here is the nugget for today:
Nader loses Peace and Freedom nomination](http://www.cnn.com/2004/ALLPOLITICS/08/02/nader.ap/index.html)

The California Peace and Freedom Party won’t be supporting Ralph Nader for president.

The group of 80,000 instead nominated jailed American Indian activist Leonard Peltier at its convention yesterday.

Nader addressed the group before the vote. The independent candidate was in California seeking the signatures needed to put him on the presidential ballot this November. Nader and his vice presidential candidate have until August 6 to collect more than 153,000 valid signatures.

The Peace and Freedom Party chairman says the group respects Nader as a leader and he should have access to ballots in “many states.”

Kevin Akin says the party decided to go with Peltier because delegates believe his candidacy is “very important.”
Cheers!

Nader’s presence or absence from California is hardly going to make much difference, anyway… but the growing list of people dumping Nader this time (the first ones were the Green Party), sure indicates, that more and more people feel voting for Nader will help Bush.

Nader appears to have quite the ego, I loss respect from him after he took in help from the GOP in Michigan to get his name on the ballet there.

May be he believes that all is fair in love and war, when it comes to ballot in Michigan.

Ego, nothing really else to say about him.

In a Democracy Now interview with Amy Goodman he touched on that 'help from GOP'. It wasn't asked of them.. but i can see why the GOP would want him to do better. Conventional wisdom being a vote for Nader is a vote for Bush

One last note about Nader, he's a smart man and he has done a lot of good work and perhaps he’s doing so again. Nader has the ability to attract people who feel alienated by the political system and get them involved. Additionally I think Nader understands the consequences of having Bush in office for 4 more years and in the end could drop out and throw his support towards Kerry, we shall see.
