Cambridge Commonwealth Trust offers scholarships

KARACHI: The Cambridge Commonwealth Trust offers a number of scholarships to enable students of outstanding academic merit to pursue one year postgraduate courses of study at the University of Cambridge in collaboration with the Open Society Institute and the United Kingdom’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

The last date for receipt of applications at the Trust is October 15, said a British Council statement on Thursday.

It said the eligibility criteria include: Citizens of Pakistan, and normally resident there, aged between 23-35 years, who already hold (or expect to hold by the time of taking up the award) a degree equivalent to an upper second degree from a UK university, have passed an appropriate English language test by the time of taking up the award, preferably have not already spent a full academic year or more studying in a higher educational institution in the West, have a strong intention to return to Pakistan at the end of their scholarship period to continue their studies/work.

Subjects offered are Criminology, Development Studies, Economies, Economics and Development, Education, Historical Studies, History and Philosophy of Science, International Relations, Law, Philosophy, Political Thought and intellectual History, and Social Anthropology.

All courses lead to an M.Phil degree. The scholarships, tenable for one academic year, will provide for payment of academic fees, examination fees, a monthly stipend for living expenses (to be sufficient for a single student), and other agreed allowances including return economy airfare.

All applicants must complete a Preliminary Application Form which can be down loaded from the British Council’s web site www britishcouncil.org.pk from 23 September onwards. - APP
