If you start cooking yourself you wont worry bout calories
You gotta understand what each food does for your body.
Like eating greens is healthy but anything from the onion family should be eaten moderately cause it gives gas and is very very annoying esp for females during pms period cause it provokes more bloating than normal
as for desi food, most of it is healthy, in salan or biryani or anything
you have your meat which is iron
vegieis which are good but dont overcook vegies
and you have your spices which are also healthy
use less oil to cook, have roti as its more fibre than having rice which is just carbs.
have dinner or lunch with a glass of any citrus juice which helps absorb iron from food faster.
and drink water an hour after eating cause it helps with the digestion.
