how are we supposed to determine calories in desi food when its always a little bit of this and a little bit of that?
the only thing that works for me weightloss wise is to count calories…i always know the calories of anything i eat thats not khana…but when it comes to khana time i just guess and hope im somewhere with in range
If you start cooking yourself you wont worry bout calories
You gotta understand what each food does for your body.
Like eating greens is healthy but anything from the onion family should be eaten moderately cause it gives gas and is very very annoying esp for females during pms period cause it provokes more bloating than normal
as for desi food, most of it is healthy, in salan or biryani or anything
you have your meat which is iron
vegieis which are good but dont overcook vegies
and you have your spices which are also healthy
use less oil to cook, have roti as its more fibre than having rice which is just carbs.
have dinner or lunch with a glass of any citrus juice which helps absorb iron from food faster.
and drink water an hour after eating cause it helps with the digestion.
u can get an idea from different websites that have caloric information such as on one cup of boiled rice. it can be rough estimates for example for something like chicken karahi u can use something like stir-fried chicken as a standard. calories in spices are negligible. you can also gauge by the calories in foods like chicken stock and beef stock how many calories will be in foods like pulao and nihari etc. have fun figuring this out and after a while u’ll be able to make good guesses about calories in different foods.
If your only problem is desi foods then make your
proportions smaller since you are already counting your calories otherwise.
Specially if you are trying to lose weight and it's not really happeing.
It really depends on how you cook, control the amount of oil and don't kill the nutritious value of food during bhonafying process. Keep variety in food eg: vegis, lentils/beans, meat (use more white meat). Eat in moderation.
