Calorie counters on exercise machines

Most exercise machine have these electronic counters on them that tell you about exercise time, speed, revolutions and calories that were burnt during the exercise session. How accurate are these calorie counters? I am I really burning those or is it just for dil ki tasali?
So what do you think?

Unfortuately they are not very accurate, the same goes for the built in heart rate monitors on these machines. You can use them as a rough guide but only as an estimate.

not very accurate but it gives you some idea and motivation

Those counters may be showing huge burning calories numbers BUT do you know how many calories you are taking in daily (that too is only rough estimate like your machine )

In sedentary life style like most of us only 1000 calories may be more than enough to supply the energy need for the daily activities we do or not do …watching t.v. on computers..gossip on phone or malls …

However you might be taking anywhere from 2000 to 3500 calories if you are average American food addict or junkie .

So next time estimate how much you are taking in & then minus the calories you burnt & see if that figure is LESS than 1000 or not .

If yes then you are o.k.

If Not then you either have to exrcise more or eat less ..which ever you prefer :k:

I always thought the daily requirement was 2000 cal not 1000. Thats an eye opener!
I have never calculated my calorie intake. I will try doing it but its kinda hard with desi food. Thanks

in reality the calorie intake depends on how much you weigh.. on an average it is close to 2000 calories per day and not 1000 .. but then once again its different for men and women .. here is a beginner article that kinda answers a lotta questions.. hope it will help ..

these machines are so whacky, i can't even get a proper pulse rate out of them.
