This has always annoyed me and yesterday it just pushed me
Every time we receive phone calls from our relatives in Pakistan (sometimes UK people do this too), they keep saying hello and expect the RECEIVER to say something else It’s like dude YOU are the one who called, YOU say what you want
Dad was doing his friend a favor and receiving his fax at our house. So that friend’s relative in Pakistan faxed and now wanted to make sure that we received it. He called, I answered and this is how the conversation went (no exaggeration and I didn’t know who it was because the number was blocked):
Me: Hello.
Him: Hello (and quiet)
Me: Yes?
Him: Hello
Me: Yes, hello? Can I help you?
Him: Hello (and quiet)
Me: I am here, what can I do for you?
Him: (in the accent) ummm…oh I just sent a fax and wanted to confirm that it’s there.
Me: Yes but it’s really not clear. Can you scan it and send it to me as an e-mail. I will print it and give to my dad and he can give it whoever it’s for.
Him: What is the e-mail address?
Me: Gave my e-mail address and the call ended.
And no, if you think may be he couldn’t hear me, the call was clear and there was no disturbance. It’s just what a lot of people do. Even some of mom & dad’s friends in the US who call the house number. It **PISSES **me off when they want ME to say something. DUDE! I didn’t call you damnit!
Ok I feel better now. Has anyone else experienced the same?
Mayorni you are so right Most aunties here say “I am (child’s name)'s ammi” Dude, I promise if you tell me your name, I will not line maar on you or have fantasies They act like as if we don’t know their names and have not seen them.
