Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

I think depeding upon the manner in which the person says it, it can be offensive or not.

"I love you my Paki brother"

"Go home you stinky Paki"

I wouldn't be offended though. I didn't ask to be born Paki, just got lucky.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Even though I don't like the word I agree with what you said and love your attitude.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

will yesterday i was watching a interveiw of a indian canadian comedian on FB by the name of brussel peters, and he said from childhood i was called a PAKI and being teased by that name.....when i used to be wid my girlfriend holding her hands some guy would come and say to my GF why you are holding hands hanging out with a PAKI(he in his late 40's) ....so i guess this word PAKI is being used as a racist comment since long back to tease ppl...

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

you pakis!

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Peace TLK

Did you know that the vast majority of British Pakistanis are sub-qualified/educated compared to the US Pakistani? I'm not surprised about this disparity in how we invoke one another. Instead of saying 'sir' or other honourable title we call each other with terms that if others called us with we would be offended ...

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Sidi you've packed all those pakis in such a tight space ... as if it were a bus in lahore.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Personally I think it can be offensive but if someone called me it in a derogatory manner I would try and shrug it off or give some retort.

I definately dont like it being used commonly even by other members of the same nationality, but then again I am very old fashioned and tend to frown upon even short names and nick names unless the friends really did go way back or there was a blood tie.

Sadly in Britian I dont really have that many "Close" friends or fammily so use of short terms or fammiliar terms is extremely limited.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Like someone said, UK desis have a problem with the word since it gets used for EVERY Desi person. As for Pakistanis using it, I think it sounds dumb and yes, I think less of a person. Doesn't really bother me as a word, though.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

I know British Pakistanis use it all the time but I wouldn't want my kids to use this term even in joke.

Us Pakis 'ufff'

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

I dont get it Psyah. Are you saying that non British overseas Pakistanis dont respect British Pakistanis?

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Depends on how are they calling and if they mean to pass in derogatory way.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

From Filipino dude in student union bar;

There are only 3 types of people in this world.
1. White
2. Black
3. Pakis

I asked; Where do you fit it?

Had to pay for me own drinks after that :(

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Hate the word. I don't get why people have to use this word for someone from Pakistan, or someone who looks remotely asian.

Re: Calling someone a ‘Paki’…

Hehe … :smack:

Perhaps you too are a British Pakistani at heart !!! To clarify I meant “we” as in “we British Pakistanis”

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

I find the word offensive, because (here in the uk anyway) of it's racist connotations, i don't like it at all, and when british pakistanis use it with each other i like it even less. i dont think they can 'reclaim' the word, particularly when even today, many years later after it was first thrown around at any brown skinned person, it's still considered derogatory. Pakistanis using the word with each other just gives bigots an excuse to say "well if they can say it, so can i". And i dont think many of our elders who first emigrated to the UK or who grew up in the 60s/70s here and had to put up with being called a 'paki' regularly would think the word could ever be acceptable either.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

Is that 'cos he gathered he was more "Paki" than anything else ... :D

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

For the record I don't use the term, nor try reclaim antics, but as we are talking about the topic I've dabbled in it. I am not offended by it, but I am not impressed by its use either in any form.

Re: Calling someone a 'Paki'...

The P word is a derogatory term d those who use it need to read the history of how it came about. It is a VERY insulting word (no matter who and when you say it to) and those who say it deserve a punch right in the face.

Probably Pakistanis are the only people in the world who dont see any problem with cursing at themselves and their parents....something other nations wont take so kindly!

Re: Calling someone a ‘Paki’…

^ I couldn’t agree more. :k:
