I wonder, which services you guys use to call your relatives and friends in Pakistan and how much you pay for it.
Obviously most of you would be using calling cards. Until last month I used to do that as well. But recently a Dutch Company started a new service named Telediscount, which is way cheaper than any calling card available at the market. At least here in Austria.
At the moment their rate is 11.6 cents per minute (Euro-cents that is), so 1 Euro gives me almost 9 minutes.
I use the Vonage service, which gives me a mnt. for 25 cents (US). Its convenient and I don't have to remember any more numbers and it instantly connects, I get real time stats on my calls, I can travel with it to anywhere in the world (just need internet), there's no base connection charge (just per mnt cost), i.e. ($0.50) + (0.11-15 /mnt)
Those are some of the problems I always had with calling cards.
I use uniontelecard.com to get a card. They email you the number and pin and it's chargeable to your credit card. I usually get around 16 cents/minutes for Pakistan. For Europe it's even a lot more cheap. Works out pretty well.
Not that its very cheap, but I have added the "India 60" plan to my regular phone line. Its offered by SBC here, and for $14.99 it gives 60 minutes each month to Pakistan and 26 cents thereafter. In addition to the usual MSN/Yahoo/Skype, we invariably end up calling many times, so having a plan on the regular phone made sense for us.
We tried calling cards some time back, but the invariable laziness of dialing so many extra numbers and the time it takes to get available circuits failed that project.
in southall :D u can get a card with 5 pounds init for 3 to 3.50 and it can give between 20-30 mins. so its cheaper than the 15 p offered by phone companies.

Ditto. That´s why I like that Telediscount service. They have changed the rate for Pakistan from 11.6 cent to 14.5 cent though. :(
