Calling all women writers with a story to tell!

Hi everyone

I’m writing to ask your help on a project I am currently working on. As part of one of my final year modules in my English BA we have to compile a collection of written works and edit these effectively to be presented in the form of a book.

I’ve decided to base my book around the lives of amazing women and use this as an opportunity to celebrate the stamina, perseverace and devotion with which we live our lives.

Using one of the following prompts I am asking you to write me a short piece.

  • A Prejudice/Battle I Have Overcome

  • My greatest achievement

  • What I went through to get where I am today
    This could be in relation to your:

  • career

  • education

  • love life

  • religious beliefs

  • chosen lifestyle

  • other
    The piece can be written as a:

  • poem

  • short story

  • diary entry

  • series of anecdotes

  • any other written form you choose to write in

  • if you can’t be bothered with any of these, I will be happy with just a written acount of the event which I can, with your permission, shape into one of the above
    I want the final product to be a sort of feel-good compilation and a celebration of women so I’m looking for positive and upbeat endings.

For poems I would ask you to keep it to a maximum of 30 lines and other pieces the word limit is 750 words. Bear in mind this is a maximum - if you can capture an event within a 10 line poem or a 200 word piece, that is just as good.

Also I am aiming to make the book as visually attractive as possible; I would appreciate any photos that accompany your story. Or alternatively if you fancy youself as a bit of an artist I would welcome any illustrations too.

I originally only sent this information to my contact list and was hoping for about 20-30 responses to put in my book. So far I have only 15 and the project is due in a fortnight so I’m afraid if you’re interested I can only give you till this Friday!

If any of you are interested please message me straight away and tell me when you expect to have the piece finished for. Can I just add that many of my submissions so far were written within 10 minutes - many people have interesting stories to tell but very few have the time to turn these into masterpieces; so if you have an idea but don’t have the time or ability to work it into something fancy, DON’T WORRY - as long as the content is good I can take care of the presentation side for you!
