Calling all Patriots!!!!

I would like to make a personal appeal to the Pakistani-American community to unite behind a single agenda of promoting Pakistan in the United States. Too many of us are involved in these debates and politics involving Pakistani political parties, pro Mush. and against, but I ask you to drop those debates for a greater purpose-- to defend Pakistan’s standing in the US.

Although our community is outmatched in population, funds, and education compared to the Indian Americans, I know we have many many talented and articulate Pakistani Americans especially those of us who are American Born, that can truly make a difference. I know this because I have worked with them in “Take Back the Hill” day in 2002, 2001, sponsored by Pak-PAC, Copaa and many other fine Pakistani organizations. We need to do much more in terms of lobbying and making sure our voices aren’t drowned out by our Indian American counterparts.

If you don’t think we have made a positive difference don’t forget the refunds for the F-16s sponsored Sen. Brownback (thanks to the efforts of Copaa), The strong Pro-Paki voice in Rep. Fossella thanks to Staten Island, NY Pakistani community, Support for Sen. Hillary Clinton by APPNA which was the reason for Pres. Clinton’s stopover in Pakistan, Support for Sen. Shumar by the NY chapter of PAPA which was instrumental in lifting sanctions.

My parents have been very active in promoting Pakistan in our home state of Ct, however Sen. Lieberman has not been so favorable, so I would like Connecticut guppies do become more active.

The cost of silence is huge and the effects will be disasterous. Please speak up as a Pakistani Patriot!

Love for the country

A lady sitting in a wheelchair arrived at Karachi airport in the early hours of June 8, returning from the US via the UK. I was deeply moved by the utterances. She had no praise for the US or the UK; but she uttered many times nothing but two words: value your azadi and love Pakistan.

Oh dear, Opposition, do you also have the same feeling for Pakistan? I am not in favour of the army to be in the ruling seat, but I remember very well that during the days of Ayub Khan, there was a remarkable growth of industries. Being a simple man, what do I care if the gentleman wears turban/cap/hat or topi, shalwar-kameez suit, pant-coat, etc., as long as he is delivering peace, harmony, security and clean administration for the people?

To eliminate the hatred for the army, the army should provide more facilities to the poor people if not equal, at least 50 per cent of the privileges given to the army personnel. For example, at the army hospital in Rawalpindi, I had to pay Rs100 for a test whereas for the army it is free. They could have charged me Rs50 so that I develop affinity for the army and not hate.

Great thoughts, It is more to up to the younger generation to present a united front and look at internal differences as a source of strength due to diverse opinions and new thoughts. Because I think many ppl in the older generation can not look beyond their differences. When there are power plays on who runs teh 14th august parade and court cases due to that..what else can we really expect.

It has seemed that this internal power play is so neara nd dear to some people's hearts, including our national leaders..benazir comes to mind..that they will hurt the nation's interest in trying to promote their own.

Its an awakening that many of us need, because without that the dramay baazi will continue as it has. There are some organizatiosn doing excellent work but there are plenty of others which although look out for the interests of their specific sectarian or provincial group do nothing for the nation.
