Calling a person Munafiq

Is calling a person Munafiq Islamically correct? Especially if a person is known to have claimed to be a Muslim by his tongue, even if he was a tyrant?

I have always had the impression that anyone calling other muslim (who claimed with his tongue to have iman in Allah and Prophet:saw: ) as Kaafir or Munafiq is an ignorant person who does not even know what’s going to happen with him/herself let alone be sure of other person’s fate in hereafter.

Any thoughts?

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

Our muslim brothers love to issue their personal fatwas ...by pronouncing others muafiq,or kafir most of the time for lil stupid odd reasons........
And this thing is commonly practice by ppl from BAR-E-SAGHIR....
nowhere else in the world...... cuz we paki's or indian muslims consider our selves the top category muslims.....better than the rest of the muslims around the world....i dono y but we do......and i would never get this attitude of having a such a big head....cuz its utterly non sense and its rude .....

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

But did Prophet:saw: call anyone on his/her face that he/she was a Munafiq?

Any reference from Sunnah?

Last thing I knew that he had only told one Sahaabi about it and even the Khualfa-e-Rashideen were not told. Syedana Umer:razi: used to consult that sahaabi once a muslim used to die to make sure that he was not in the Salaaht-ul-Janazah of a Munafiq.

Having said that, Prophet:saw: knew about the Munafiqeen because ALLAH:swt: told him so.

Do you think it is wise for a muslim to label other muslims as Munafiq when Prophet:saw: himself did not label anyone on his own?

Do you think that anyone labeling others as Munafiq is Wali Allah who is guaranteed Jannah that without looking into him/herself, he/she is quick to judge and call names to muslims as Munafiq and then also declare others as Non-muslims because of the Sins the person had committed.

Does committing a sin other than Shirk makes one Kaafir or Munaafiq…?

Does it mean that person claiming others to be Munaafiq is clean of Sins and if not, does that make that person a Munafiq as well?

that I dont know …good question

yes thats true … sahabi was Hudhayfa Al Yaman (ra)

well from Quran alone I think we can infer that there are certain traits that are hypocritical, if a certain person has them in abundance we can criticize him for that ( from what i know)

I think committing shirk makes you kafir

provided he does not possess the same traits himself …like US lecturing china on human rights

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

Source Sahih Bukhari. Prophet :saw: said:

There are three syntoms of Munafiq. If someone have these three, he is Munafiq and if someone has one of them, he is partially Munafiq.

1.He tells a lie when he speaks.

2.He breaks the promise when he makes.

3.He calls bad names to the people.

In Quran, it is mentioned as Munafiq is the person who says to the muslims that I am a Muslim but he supports non-muslims or anti-muslims activities.

Namaz-e Janaza of Munafiq is forbidden by the Holy Quran.

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

Doesn't munafique means 'hypocrite'?

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

These are ‘attributes’ of munafiq, doesn’t give you right to ‘judge/label’ munafiq. I don’t recall Prophet PBUH calling munafiq’s as ‘munafiq’ or ‘kafir’ via any hadith even though it was very possible he knew all munafiqs.

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

The only people you can call kafirs are those that do the folllowing:

  1. Committ Shirk Openly
  2. Make something Haram into Halal.

ANd ofcourse there is depth in the above two.

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

So all those so called muslims earning interest from banks can be called kafirs? so how many kafir are there in Pakistan?

Re: Calling a person Munafiq

Doing something haraam is one thing...you're a sinner. Making it halaal, and promoting it as halal takes you out of the fold of islam.
