I visited a call center for a good US based company in Pakistan and it was hecka amusing lol
All the people working there were Pakistanis but they were all Amreeka returned, most of em high school or community college dropouts, and they all had their American accents though…
They all had American names, fakes ones…Like Sameer would be Sam lol and Rizwan would be Riz etc…
This one person called in for tech support from the US and asked Sam where he was, Sam said I’m in Chicago, and the person from the US was like no where are you from from? [Sam’s got a slight desi touch in his accent] … Sam’s like I’m from Chicago so the other person goes how’s the weather there n Sam had to make something up. In the end Sam had to email some file to that guy and Sam’s email add was Sameer.Chaudhry lol so the guy asked him hey are you Pakistani!!!..Sam pakra gya so he’s like ummm yeah and the other guy was like why didn’t you tell me man??? I’m Pakistani too and Sam’s like its company policy etc and then the guy who was calling wanted to talk in Urdu but Sam made some excused coz he is not allowed to speak in Urdu n his manager was sitting nearby…
Which city your friend is in? Yes, they are hiring and pay pretty good, a starting salary of Rs 15000/-
I wanna apply too but then I can’t speak english, moun winga kur key. I don’t have a British or American accent, I just have the desi one But thats oki, no regrets
I am serious ... one of my best friends from highschool is looking for a job in Pakistan. He has BSCS ... any suggestion/recommendation?

w'salam Saqib,
oh ok. hmm, email me his resume and then i'll fwd it to my office manager. this is in khi.
in case that doesnt work out there must be openings in other companies too i am sure. he could apply from the us over email or come and visit pak and apply from here.
salam guys,
the working atmosphere in Pakistan does sound interesting. I have a couple of questions though and I'll be grateful if you give me some idea about it.
1) how hard it is to ** 'establish' ** a call center for a North American company in Pakistan?
2) how hard it is to *'get a contract' * from a North american company to provide customer service for them in Pakistan?
Please note the difference between establishing a call center and getting a contract.
I would say your second question is more important then the first one, though you would have to prove that your call center can be up all the times its supposed to be (meaning a 100% up time).
I have heard with VoIP services, you can easily set up a call center with a couple of cisco routers but I am just guessing.
for initiator n hmcq, setting up a call center is not a big deal, i know coz one of my friend not only has his own setup but he's also providing infrastructure/equipments n bandwidth etc for that purpose
the thing which is difficult is that, u shouldnt go out n call every second person if ur on a marketing project, sometimes just a single call costs even more than your anual income!
salam again,
Thanks to hmcq and Aceones. as you guys said it's not difficult to setup call center, however i am still wondering how to get a contract. how do ppl who are already running call centers go about it? and approximately how much investment is required to establish a call center from scratch?

Irem,
He is already in Pakistan. Actually he studied there. We are intouch via email. I haven't seen him in 8 yrs now. I will forward his resume as soon as I get it.

I have had that happen to me a few times. Being desi, I typically can sense a slightest hint of desi accent (its typically true for anyone who'se had exposure to desi english at early childhood back home). So forget the call center dude/dudettes from India/Pakistan.. its a dead giveaway. Anyhow, when this one particular guy called, I asked him right off the bat, "Are you indian or Pakistani," He replied "Indian". I said, "good, lets talk in hindi cause mein thaak giya hoon inglish bol bol kay pooray din. He said he couldn't cause its company policy since its being recorded. Humpff.. ANd he was trying to sell me long distance to Pakistan.
To me, if you're marketing something to me because I am desi and its of desi interest, and you happen to be desi, then speak the language! It just becomes more on a pesonal level. I might actually buy what you're selling if you speak my language. :)
