Yeah, she charges $350-400 dollars, a bit out of my budget for just makeup and hair, plus she said extra $40 dollars for a very simple hair do, and extra $30-40 for dupatta setting. I asked her to work with me on the price because I need nikkah and mehndi makeup also and she said she'll charge ONLY $200 for light makeup for nikah and $200 for mehndi.
I agree her work is good, but I'm not about to spend $1,000 dollars for makeup that I'm gonna wash off after 4 hours.
I'm looking for good alternatives

YIKES! i cant think of anything else except maybe goin to a mac store and asking the girls if they know of any freelance make up artist n then u can prob get cheaper quotes with a non desi girl. plus where do u live?

i agree, with the MAC idea. try out a couple makeup artists at the mall til u find one that suits u. go before u go to a party lol.
i would tell u to go to oscar at zibas, but hes ridiculously priced and not worth it. i really cant think of anyone off the top of my head but i'll post some if i do! good luck!

Yeah I love Oscar's work but there's no way I'm gonna let a man do my makeup. I wear Hijab so thats out of the question.

anyone in socal have experience with MUA nida gazi? below is her portfolio on facebook. not a lot of pictures to go by, but her brides look a lot better than most i’ve seen in socal (is it just me or is there a dearth of talented MUAs for desi brides on the west coast?)

- he takes $ 75 for make up only for formal and 150 for makeup + hair formal

I’ve looked at Monique Powers (southern Cali).. hmmm.. no comment, I wasn’t impressed, but everyone has their own taste

@ shafaaf- I had asked Nida about anybody she can refer in the Bay Area, she does have a MAC pro MUA contact there as well. You can email her, she is really nice. We really liked her work... a friend of ours who was in a fashion show she did looked amazing and raves about her.

If thats Marwah from GS, i'd hire her!!! the girl KNOWS her stuff!
