Re: Cake Decorating
Thank you girls. I loved working with fondant! Haven’t gotten to the flowerpart yet, will be doing roses next week insha Allah but this cake was easy. Going by your earlier comments SGC I was expecting it to be very tough too. Its as simple as keeping the fondant at room temp and rolling it out on a smooth surface. I used the plastic sheet that comes in kit3 to roll it out on greased lightly with some crisco. rolled it out with the plastic rolling pins that are specifically for rolling out fondant. I prepared the bow loops at home and let them dry for 3 days. My instructor loved my bow, she said it was so perfect that it looked fake
The pearls at the bottom edge were made in a mould in class, very easy. I love fondant(so far, touchwood) ![]()
nisa u could probably feel the sugar cos it wasn’t beaten long enough. I do however think that no amount of beating with a hand held mixer can get these creams velvet smooth. The stand mixers do wonders though. I soooo want one
Good job though :k:

Re: Cake Decorating
Alrighty ladies, I need some help with making icing. I tried to make some today for a cake I baked, but it ended in a disaster. I usually buy my icing from the store, but today I thought hey let me try something new. So what I did was add confectioner's sugar, villa extract, and a couple of table spoons of warm water and the result was a glazed looking mixture.
What am I doing wrong? How do I get my icing to be fluffy? Is it necessary that I use powdered sugar or can I use regular sugar as well?
Any recipes that you recommend?
Yep, that's all for now.
Re: Cake Decorating
I think its because your not using any vegetable shortening. You have to add half of a brick of vegetable shortening to 4 cups of icing sugar, 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract (the clear kind), 2 tablespoons of water (you shouldn't need more water than that) And than you can add coloring to your preference.

Re: Cake Decorating
Its either one cup of shortening or half a cup of shortening and a stick of butter(1/2 cup) I prefer the half and half mix, it tastes better.
Re: Cake Decorating
WOW...!!..thats so nice...so perfect..!!
Re: Cake Decorating
Thanks you. This time around it came out looking like icing!
So to those who took the Wilton cake decorating classes, just curious to know if you made your cakes from scratch or bought those Better Crocker boxes?
SG: Wow. Cake looks great!
