Two cars I am currently considering are CTS from Cadillac and the new XF from Jag.
I fully understand both the historic reliability issues with Jags as well their uncertain future with Tata of India, but the car absolutely blows. I need some real good reasons not to consider it any more. Its fairly exclusive, and the supercharged 4.2L V8 gets 400+ hp with an interior that is simply stunning. Front exterior is a disappointment after the gorgeous C-XF Concept shown last year, but anyway…
Re: CTS, its a nice car and will be a change from the usual E-class or 5-series or Infinitis of the world. I think Cadillac has good reliability ratings too. Exterior styling is distinct and interior is pretty nice. Don’t like the way they price the darn thing with an options list that is longer than GS Forums list.
By the way, yes I know that fully loaded, price delta between these two is about $20k.
Both cars are ordinary in their mpg ratings, so that likely won’t be a factor. Plus there is no hurry as I probably can wait the whole summer to make the switch. If there is a comparable car coming in the near future, do share.
Havent driven the Jaguar, but the new Caddilac’s rear seats might be tight and uncomfortable depending on who’s sitting back there. Children might be ok with it, but adults will definately be uncomfortable. I found the trunk to be small too, but that might be because I was shoving luggage. Front seating/cockpit was exceptional compared to recent Caddys. I’m sure the techie in you will be happy.
Winding Road has a review of the two, back to back, in their current May issue: see it online.
^ As a rule, I don't even consider 2 door coupes. Not practical for me. C-63 may be a tempting, but I am not too much into speed. Comfort and styling are more important. C-class is way too small, especially rear seats.
X2.... :D Dunno man, I have never been attracted towards Jags before, but this XF is pretty darn good looking. Aston at Jag price, methinks. Same design clues on the rear.
Although, the way gas prices are going, I may just drop everything else, and quietly get an Altima Hybrid... Today, the premium here is at $4.39. It may cross five bucks sooner than we expect.

The CLS55/63 are four door 'coupes'.. though they are categorized as saloons, still look like coupes.
